前記記録ヘッドの液滴を吐出させるノズルの前記圧力発生手段に対して前記液滴を吐出させる吐出パルスを与え、前記液滴を吐出させないノズルの前記圧力発生手段に対して液滴を吐出させないで前記ノズルのメニスカスを振動させる非吐出パルスを与えるヘッド駆動制御手段と、
前記記録ヘッドから画像形成に寄与しない空吐出滴を吐出させる空吐出動作を制御する空吐出制御手段と、を備え、
前記空吐出制御手段は、第1空吐出動作と第2空吐出動作とを制御可能であり、
前記第1空吐出動作では、連続した被記録媒体に対して一定の長さごとの画像を形成しない領域に1回前記空吐出滴が吐出されて、前記空吐出滴がライン状に着弾し、
前記第2空吐出動作では、前記被記録媒体の画像形成領域に対して前記空吐出滴が吐出されて、前記空吐出滴が点在して着弾し、
前記ヘッド駆動制御手段は、
前記空吐出制御手段が前記第1空吐出動作の制御を行うときには第1非吐出パルスを与え、
前記空吐出制御手段が前記第2空吐出動作の制御を行うときには第2非吐出パルスを与え、
前記第2非吐出パルスを与えたときの前記ノズルのメニスカスの振動の振幅又は振動回数は、前記第1非吐出パルスを与えたときの前記ノズルのメニスカスの振動の振幅又は振動回数よりも相対的に大きい
構成とした。

Claims (4)
- 液滴を吐出する複数のノズルと、前記ノズルが通じる個別液室と、前記個別液室内の液体を加圧する圧力を発生する圧力発生手段と、を有する記録ヘッドと、
前記記録ヘッドの液滴を吐出させるノズルの前記圧力発生手段に対して前記液滴を吐出させる吐出パルスを与え、前記液滴を吐出させないノズルの前記圧力発生手段に対して液滴を吐出させないで前記ノズルのメニスカスを振動させる非吐出パルスを与えるヘッド駆動制御手段と、
前記記録ヘッドから画像形成に寄与しない空吐出滴を吐出させる空吐出動作を制御する空吐出制御手段と、を備え、
前記空吐出制御手段は、第1空吐出動作と第2空吐出動作とを制御可能であり、
前記第1空吐出動作では、連続した被記録媒体に対して一定の長さごとの画像を形成しない領域に1回前記空吐出滴が吐出されて、前記空吐出滴がライン状に着弾し、
前記第2空吐出動作では、前記被記録媒体の画像形成領域に対して前記空吐出滴が吐出されて、前記空吐出滴が点在して着弾し、
前記ヘッド駆動制御手段は、
前記空吐出制御手段が前記第1空吐出動作の制御を行うときには第1非吐出パルスを与え、
前記空吐出制御手段が前記第2空吐出動作の制御を行うときには第2非吐出パルスを与え、
前記第2非吐出パルスを与えたときの前記ノズルのメニスカスの振動の振幅又は振動回数は、前記第1非吐出パルスを与えたときの前記ノズルのメニスカスの振動の振幅又は振動回数よりも相対的に大きい
ことを特徴とする画像形成装置。 - 前記空吐出動作で使用する吐出パルスは、画像形成に使用する吐出パルスと同じであることを特徴とする請求項1に記載の画像形成装置。
- 少なくとも、滴の大きさの異なる複数の液滴を吐出可能であり、
前記第1空吐出動作で吐出させる空吐出滴は、前記複数の液滴のうちの最も大きな液滴であり、
前記第2空吐出動作で吐出させる空吐出滴は、前記複数の液滴のうちの最も小さな液滴である
ことを特徴とする請求項1又は2に記載の画像形成装置。 - 前記ヘッド駆動制御手段は、
1駆動周期ごとに複数の駆動パルスを時系列で含む駆動波形を生成出力する駆動波形生成手段と、
前記駆動波形生成手段から出力された前記駆動波形に含まれる複数の駆動パルスのうちの所要の1又は2以上の駆動パルスを前記吐出パルス又は前記非吐出パルスとして選択して前記圧力発生手段に与える手段と、を有し、
前記第1非吐出パルスとして1つの前記駆動パルスが選択され、
前記第2非吐出パルスとして2つ以上の駆動パルスが選択され、又は2つの駆動パルスの一部の波形要素が選択される
ことを特徴とする請求項1ないし3のいずれかに記載の画像形成装置。
