以下、第1の実施形態に係る液晶表示装置100について図1〜図6に基づいて詳細に説明する。
次に第2の実施形態について、図10、図11に基づいて説明する。本第2の実施形態の液晶表示装置200は、カラー表示用の液晶表示装置である。
次に、第3の実施形態に係る液晶表示装置300について、図12、図13に基づいて説明する。
次に、第4の実施形態に係る液晶表示装置400について、図14〜図19に基づいて説明する。

Claims (8)
- 選択反射の主波長が可視光領域であるコレステリック液晶層と、該コレステリック液晶層を介して対向する上側基板及び下側基板と、を有する液晶表示素子が複数積層された、反射型の液晶表示装置において、
前記複数の液晶表示素子のうちの少なくとも1つにおける、指向性制御により反射光の明るさのピークが生じる入射光に対する角度が、他の液晶表示素子のうちの少なくとも1つにおける、指向性制御により反射光の明るさのピークが生じる入射光に対する角度と異なることを特徴とする液晶表示装置。 - 前記指向性制御は、前記上側基板及び前記下側基板へのラビング処理により行うことを特徴とする請求項1に記載の液晶表示装置。
- 前記液晶表示素子の前記上側基板に対するラビング処理の方向と、前記下側基板に対するラビング処理の方向とは、90°異なることを特徴とする請求項2に記載の液晶表示装置。
- 前記複数の液晶表示素子のうちの少なくとも1つにおける、指向性制御により反射光の明るさのピークが生じる入射光に対する角度は、他の液晶表示素子のうちの少なくとも1つにおける、指向性制御により反射光の明るさのピークが生じる入射光に対する角度に対して45°異なることを特徴とする請求項2に記載の液晶表示装置。
- 前記指向性制御により反射光の明るさのピークが生じる入射光に対する角度が異なる液晶表示素子同士の、反射光の旋光性が異なることを特徴とする請求項1〜4のいずれか一項に記載の液晶表示装置。
- 前記液晶表示素子は2層積層され、
そのうちの一方の液晶表示素子は、赤色光を反射光とする赤色液晶部分と緑色を反射光とする第1緑色液晶部分とを有し、
他方の液晶表示素子は、前記赤色液晶部分に対応する、青色光を反射光とする青色液晶部分と、前記第1緑色液晶部分に対応する、緑色を反射光とする第2緑色液晶部分とを有し、
前記赤色液晶部分と前記青色液晶部分における反射光の旋光性が同一であり、前記第1、第2の緑色液晶部分における反射光の旋光性が異なることを特徴とする請求項1〜5のいずれか一項に記載の液晶表示装置。 - 前記一方の液晶表示素子における前記赤色液晶部分と前記第1の緑色液晶部分との面積比、及び、前記他方の液晶表示素子における前記青色液晶部分と前記第2の緑色液晶部分との面積比は、それぞれ2:1であることを特徴とする請求項6に記載の液晶表示装置。
- 前記複数の液晶表示素子は、青色光を反射光とする青色液晶表示素子と、緑色光を反射光とする緑色液晶表示素子と、赤色光を反射光とする赤色液晶表示素子と、を含み、
前記青色液晶表示素子と前記赤色液晶表示素子の、指向性制御により反射光の明るさのピークが生じる入射光に対する角度が異なることを特徴とする請求項1〜7のいずれか一項に記載の液晶表示装置。
