また、発光層に含まれる上記ホール輸送性化合物はトリフェニルアミン構造を有するものであることが好ましい。これにより、発光層におけるキャリアバランスの改善効果を一層高水準で得ることができるようになるため、一層長寿命の有機EL素子が実現可能となる。
に該電極間に配置され、アントラセン構造を有するビニルポリマー及びガラス転移温度が
70℃以上のホール輸送性化合物を含有する発光層を有する有機EL素子が複数配列され
た表示部と、一対の電極それぞれに電気的に接続されており、該電極に電圧又は電流を供
給する電力供給部と、有機EL素子それぞれを点灯又は消灯するスイッチング部と、を備
え、上記ポリマーが、上記一般式(1)〜(4)で表される構造単位のうちの少なくとも1種を有することを特徴とする。
基板10としては、非晶質基板(例えばガラス、石英など)、結晶基板(例えば、Si、GaAs、ZnSe、ZnS、GaP、InPなど)が挙げられ、またこれらの結晶基板に結晶質、非晶質あるいは金属のバッファ層を形成した基板も用いることができる。また金属基板としては、Mo、Al、Pt、Ir、Au、Pdなどを用いることができる。さらには、樹脂フィルム基板(例えば、ポリエチレンテレフタレートなど)も用いることができる。
ホール注入電極(陽極)層12に用いる材料は、発光層へホールを効率よく注入することのできるものが好ましく、仕事関数4.5eV〜5.5eVの物質が好ましい。具体的には、透明導電膜である錫ドープ酸化インジウム(ITO)、亜鉛ドープ酸化インジウム(IZO)、酸化インジウム(In2O3)、酸化スズ(SnO2)および酸化亜鉛(ZnO)のいずれかを主組成としたものが好ましい。
電子注入電極(陰極)層18に用いる材料は、後述する発光層20の改質部16の効果により、比較的低い仕事関数を有している必要がないため、特に限定されることはない。したがって、比較的低い仕事関数を有するLi、Na、K若しくはCsなどのアルカリ金属、Mg、Ca、Sr若しくはBaなどのアルカリ土類金属、LiF若しくはCsIなどのアルカリハロゲン化物、Li2Oなどの酸化物、La、Ce、Sn、Zn若しくはZrなどのアルカリ金属又はアルカリ土類金属と特性が近い金属を用いることができ、さらには、比較的高い仕事関数を有するAl,Ag,In,Ti,Cu,Au,Mo,W,Pt,Pd若しくはNi、又は、これらの金属の合金、或いはこれらの金属と他の金属との合金をも用いることが可能である。また、これらのうち1種を単独で又は2種以上を組み合わせて用いることもできる。
発光層20は、前述の通り、アントラセン構造を有するビニルポリマー及びガラス転移温度が70℃以上のホール輸送性化合物を含有する有機層である。また、発光層20は、電子注入電極層18側の表面付近に形成されたイオン化ポテンシャル5.5eV以上のホールブロック性化合物を含有する改質部16と、それ以外の部分14とで構成されている。
一般式(4)中、Ar1及びAr2は同一でも異なっていてもよく、それぞれ置換若しくは未置換のフェニレン基又は置換若しくは未置換のナフチレン基を示す。Ar1及びAr2の置換基としては、例えば、アルキル基、アルコキシ基、アリール基、アリールオキシ基、複素環基、ハロゲン原子、シアノ基、水酸基又はアミノ基などが挙げられる。また、sは1又は2を示し、tは0又は1を示す。なお、tが0の場合には、アントラセン骨格の10位にナフチル基が直接結合した構造となる。
シ)安息香酸もしくはp−(ヒドロキシ)安息香酸などが挙げられる。
先ず、ホール注入電極(陽極)層としてシート抵抗15Ω/□のITO膜が形成されている透明ガラス製基板を用意し、そのITO膜上にポリエチレンジオキシチオフェン/ポリスチレンスルホン酸(PEDOT/PSS、Bayer社製、バイトロンP)をスピンコート法により塗布し、50nmの膜厚を有するホール注入層を形成した。
改質部を形成する際にアニール処理を行わなかったこと以外は実施例1と同様にして、有機EL素子を作製した。
上記表8中の式(5−1)で表されるトリフェニルジアミン誘導体の代わりに、上記表8中の式(5−2)で表されるトリフェニルジアミン誘導体(ガラス転移温度:83℃)を用いたこと以外は実施例1と同様にして、有機EL素子を作製した。
上記表8中の式(5−1)で表されるトリフェニルジアミン誘導体の代わりに、下記式(6)で表されるトリフェニルジアミン構造を有するビニルポリマー(ガラス転移温度:190℃)を用いたこと以外は実施例1と同様にして、有機EL素子を作製した。
上記表1中の構造単位(1−3)を有するビニルポリマーの代わりに、下記式(7)で表されるポリマーを用いたこと以外は実施例1と同様にして、有機EL素子を作製した。
上記表8中の式(5−1)で表されるトリフェニルジアミン誘導体の代わりに下記式(8)で表されるトリフェニルジアミン誘導体(ガラス転移温度:66℃)を用いたこと以外は実施例1と同様にして、有機EL素子を作製した。
改質部を形成する際にアニール処理を行わなかったこと以外は比較例2と同様にして、有機EL素子を作製した。
上記表1中の構造単位(1−3)を有するビニルポリマーの代わりに、下記式(9)で表されるアントラセン低分子材料を用いた以外は実施例1と同様にして、有機EL素子の作製を試みた。しかし、発光層の改質(塗布)を行う際に発光層が完全に溶解し、目的の有機EL素子が得られなかった。
上記式(8)で表される繰り返し単位を有するビニルポリマーの代わりにポリビニルカルバゾール(PVK、数平均分子量:300,000)を用いたこと以外は実施例1と同様にして、有機EL素子を作製した。
Claims (7)
- 互いに対向して配置された一対の電極と、
該電極間に配置され、アントラセン構造を有するポリマー及びガラス転移温度が70℃以上の下記一般式(5)又は(5−a)で表されるホール輸送性化合物を含有する発光層と、
を備え、
前記アントラセン構造を有するポリマーが、下記一般式(1)〜(4)で表される構造単位のうちの少なくとも1種を有することを特徴とする有機EL素子。
- 前記発光層が、前記アントラセン構造を有するポリマー及び前記ホール輸送性化合物を含む塗布液を用いて塗布法により形成されたものであることを特徴とする、請求項1に記載の有機EL素子。
- 前記発光層は、アニール処理が施されたものであることを特徴とする、請求項2に記載の有機EL素子。
- 前記ホール輸送性化合物がトリフェニルアミン構造を有するものであることを特徴とする、請求項1〜3のうちのいずれか一項に記載の有機EL素子。
- 互いに対向して配置された一対の電極と、該電極間に配置され、アントラセン構造を有するポリマー及びガラス転移温度が70℃以上の下記一般式(5)又は(5−a)で表されるホール輸送性化合物を含有する発光層と、を備える有機EL素子の製造方法であって、
前記アントラセン構造を有するポリマー及び前記ホール輸送性化合物を含む塗布液を用いて塗布法により前記発光層を形成する工程を備え、
前記アントラセン構造を有するポリマーが、下記一般式(1)〜(4)で表される構造単位のうちの少なくとも1種を有することを特徴とする有機EL素子の製造方法。
- 塗布法により形成された前記発光層にアニール処理を施す工程を更に備えることを特徴とする、請求項5に記載の有機EL素子の製造方法。
- 互いに対向して配置された一対の電極、並びに該電極間に配置され、アントラセン構造を有するポリマー及びガラス転移温度が70℃以上の下記一般式(5)又は(5−a)で表されるホール輸送性化合物を含有する発光層を有する有機EL素子が複数配列された表示部と、
前記一対の電極それぞれに電気的に接続されており、該電極に電圧又は電流を供給する電力供給部と、
前記有機EL素子それぞれを点灯又は消灯するスイッチング部と、
を備え、
前記アントラセン構造を有するポリマーが、下記一般式(1)〜(4)で表される構造単位のうちの少なくとも1種を有することを特徴とする有機ELディスプレイ。
