Abstract
Description
本発明の有機EL素子においては、上記特定のビニルポリマーを有機層に含有せしめることで、当該有機層の耐熱性及び耐電特性、さらには隣接層との密着性を十分に向上させることができる。したがって、本発明により、長時間又は繰り返し駆動させた場合であっても、発光効率、発光輝度などの素子特性を高水準に維持することができる長寿命の有機EL素子が実現可能となる。
本発明に係るビニルポリマーはそれ自身が発光性を有するため、発光材料として使用してもよいが、当該ビニルポリマーはキャリア輸送性に特に優れるものである。したがって、本発明においては、有機層が発光性ドーパントを更に含有することが好ましい。この場合、本発明に係るビニルポリマーは有機層においてホスト材料として機能することになる。
基板1としては、ガラス、石英などの非晶質基板、Si、GaAs、ZnSe、ZnS、GaP、InPなどの結晶基板、Mo、Al、Pt、Ir、Au、Pd、SUSなどの金属基板などを用いることができる。また、結晶質又は非晶質のセラミック、金属、有機物などの薄膜を所定基板上に形成したものを用いてもよい。
陽極層2は、有機層3へのホール注入電極として機能する。そのため、陽極層2の材料としては、有機層にホールを効率よく注入できる材料が好ましく、より具体的には、仕事関数が4.5〜5.5eVである材料が好ましい。
本発明の有機EL素子においては、図1に示したように、陽極層2上の非発光領域には絶縁体層6を設けることが好ましい。かかる絶縁層6を設けることで、発光面積を制御して色のにじみを抑制することができる。絶縁層6の材料としては、一般的な絶縁膜材料、例えばSiO2やAl2O3などを適宜選択して用いることができる。絶縁体層6の膜厚は1〜7μm程度が好ましい。絶縁体層6の発光領域に対応する部分には、フォトリソグラフィ及びエッチングの手法により、陽極層2が露出するように開口部が設けられ、この露出した陽極層2上に有機層3、陰極層4(第2の電極層)がこの順で積層される。これにより、陽極層2と有機層3との電気伝導が確保される。
有機層3は、上述の通り、本発明にかかるビニルポリマーを含有し、さらに発光用ドーパントを含有してもよい。
陰極層4は有機層3に電子を注入する層として機能する。陰極層4の具体的態様としては、無機電子注入層、有機金属錯体の塗布膜からなる電子注入層、金属塩の塗布膜からなる電子注入層などが挙げられる。また、これらの電子注入層に補助電極層が積層した積層体を陰極層4としてもよい。かかる積層体の場合、無機電子注入層、有機金属錯体の塗布膜、金属塩の塗布膜が有機層3に近い側に配置され、補助電極層は有機層3から遠い側に配置される。
図1に示したように、有機EL素子9の陰極層4側を封止板5により封止することで、有機層3、さらには陽極層2及び陰極層4の劣化を防止することができる。この際、絶縁層6上の非発光領域にスペーサー7を配置し、スペーサー7と封止板5とを接着することにより、有機EL素子9の陰極層4側表面と封止板5との接触を防止することができる。スペーサー7は、有機材料、無機材料(金属材料を含む)のいずれであってもよい。また、フォトレジストや感光性ポリイミドなどの感光性材料を用い、フォトリソグラフィなどの手法によりスペーサー7を形成することもできる。さらには、接着剤とガラススペーサーなどの絶縁体とを混合し、その混合物をスペーサー7の形成領域に塗布してもよい。
先ず、下記反応式(A)に従い、上記式(4)で表される構造単位を有するビニルポリマー(重量平均分子量:30,000)を合成した。
下記反応式(B)に従い、上記式(3)で表される構造単位を有するビニルポリマー(重量平均分子量:21,000)を合成した。
下記反応式(C)に従ってビニルポリマー(重量平均分子量:18,000)を合成した。
下記反応式(D)に従ってビニルポリマー(重量平均分子量:33,000)を合成した。
Claims (5)
- 上記一般式(1)中のAがアントラセン環構造、ナフタセン環構造、ピレン環構造、フェナントレン環構造、フェナントロリン環構造、フルオランテン環構造、フルオレン環構造、あるいはこれらの2種以上が組み合わせられた構造を有する2価の発光性基であることを特徴とする、請求項1に記載の有機EL素子。
- 前記有機層が発光性ドーパントを更に含有することを特徴とする、請求項1〜3のうちのいずれか一項に記載の有機EL素子。
- 互いに対向して配置された一対の電極と、該電極間に配置され、下記一般式(1)で表される構造単位を有するビニルポリマーを含有する有機層と、を有する有機EL素子が複数配列された表示部、
前記一対の電極それぞれに電気的に接続されており、該電極に電圧又は電流を供給する電力供給部、並びに
前記有機EL素子のそれぞれを点灯又は消灯するスイッチング部、
を備えることを特徴とする有機ELディスプレイ。
