Description
下記実施例において、本発明のカートリッジIC1〜IC6として示されているいくつかのフィルターカートリッジを、本質的には図3に示されている種類の装置を用いて製造したが、次のように修正した。濾過繊維は、3つの通常の6インチ幅メルトブローイングダイから発生したが、これらの各々は、88個の直径0.015インチポリマーオリフィスと、調節可能なエアギャップを備えている。ダイは、図1に示されているように、フィルターカートリッジの支持コアに平行に並べられ、これによって、濾過体の3つの環状ゾーンを含むフィルターカートリッジが形成された。濾過繊維ダイエアギャップのセットは、内部、中間、及び外部ゾーンダイにおいて、各々0.025、0.030、及び0.035インチであった。
平均媒体ボイド容積=(Dr−Dm)/Dr(100)
ここにおいて、Drは樹脂の密度(=.904g/cm3)であり、Dmは媒体の密度である。
実施例のカートリッジの濾過特性は、メムテック・アメリカ・コーポレーション(Memtec America Corporation)技術報告書第1903−T号(1991年)(この全体の内容は、ここに特に引用して組み込まれる)に記載された手順を用いて評価した。ついでテストサンプルを分析して、下記特性及びデータを得た。
βx=Ix/Ox
ここにおいて、x=粒子サイズ(マイクロメーター(μm)表示);
βx=粒子サイズxにおけるベータ比;
Ix=流入サンプルにおけるサイズxの粒子の数;及び
Ox=流出サンプルにおけるサイズxの粒子の数。
濁度効率%=(Ti−To)/Ti(100)
ここにおいて、Tiは流入濁度であり、Toは流出濁度である。
実施例1の場合、支持繊維ダイは、1列の9個のノズルを備えており、各ノズルは、設計が米国特許第3,543,332号(引用してここに全て組み込まれる)に開示されている型に似ている。各ノズルは、0.035インチ直径のポリマーオリフィス1個と、0.083インチ直径の空気孔3個を備えているものであった。9個のノズルは、カートリッジの軸に平行に並べられ、18インチの距離にわたって間隔をあけて配置されていた。支持繊維ダイは、支持繊維が濾過繊維流の幅全体に排出されて、カートリッジの各環状ゾーンにおいて支持繊維と濾過繊維との混合物が得られるように配置された。550°Fの装置空気温度を用いた。本発明によるカートリッジ(本発明のカートリッジ1、「IC1」として示されているもの)を製造するための、各ダイにおける作業条件は、次の通りであった。
この実施例2の場合、支持繊維ダイは、通常の6インチ幅メルトブローイングダイであった。このダイには、0.015インチ直径のポリマーオリフィスが12個と、0.050インチの1組みのエアギャップが備えられている。支持繊維ダイは、支持繊維が主として内部ゾーンにおいて収集され、少しの部分がフィルター体の中間ゾーンにおいて集められるように配置された。空気温度は500°Fであった。本発明によるカートリッジ(本発明のカートリッジ2、「IC2」として示されているもの)を製造するために、各ダイにおいて用いられた作業条件は、次の通りであった。
実施例2を繰り返した。但し、支持繊維ダイポリマー流量は、27.4g/分に低下させた。これによって、カートリッジ内の支持繊維含有量が減少した。結果として生じたカートリッジ(本発明のカートリッジ3、「IC3」として示されているもの)について、支持繊維を含まず、同じ条件下に製造された濾過繊維を含むカートリッジ(対照カートリッジ3、「CC3」として示されているもの)と比べた性能テストを実施した。結果は、図14(A)〜(C)のグラフに示されているが、一方、IC3の繊維構造の顕微鏡写真は、図8に示されている。
この実施例4の場合、支持繊維ダイは、支持繊維ダイが内部濾過繊維ダイと一列になるように支持繊維ダイを動かすことによってのみ、内部環状ゾーンにおいて繊維を収集するように配置された。製造されたカートリッジの切開及び分析に基づくと、非常に少量の支持繊維が中間ゾーンにおいて収集されたようであった。しかしながら、中間ゾーンにおける支持繊維の割合は、先行実施例よりも少ないと考えられた。支持繊維ポリマーは、10分あたり12グラムのメルト流量を有するポリプロピレン材料であった。(ハイモント・ユー・エス・エー・インコーポレイテッド(Himont USA,Inc.グレードPD 626)。圧縮空気温度500°Fを用いた。ダイにおける作業条件は、次のとおりであった。
実施例2の作業条件を繰り返したが、但し、支持繊維ダイポリマー流量は、95.4g/分に増加させた。これによって、支持繊維含有量が増した。この結果生じたカートリッジ(本発明のカートリッジ5、「IC5」として示されているもの)について、実施例2に従って製造された本発明のもう1つのカートリッジ(本発明のカートリッジ6、「IC6」として示されているもの)と比べた性能テストを行なって、種々の支持繊維含有量の効果を評価した。結果は図16(A)〜(C)のグラフに示されているが、一方、IC5及びIC6の繊維構造の顕微鏡写真は、各々図10及び図11に示されている。
Claims (7)
- 濾過体製造方法であって、
(i)メルトブローン繊維の第一流を、第一メルトブローイングダイから成形マンドレルの方へ出すこと;
(ii)メルトブローン繊維の第二流を、第二メルトブローイングダイから、前記成形マンドレルに隣接して配置された収集/移送表面の方へ出して、メルトブローン繊維の前記第二流がメルトブローン繊維の前記第一流から遮られるようにすること;及び
(iii)前記収集/移送表面を動かして、前記第二流の前記メルトブローイン繊維が、前記第一流の前記メルトブローン繊維と接触するように、かつ前記成形マンドレルに送られるようにすること
を含む、濾過体製造方法。 - 濾過体製造装置であって、
(i)成形マンドレル;
(ii)メルトブローン繊維の第一流を前記成形マンドレルの方へ出す第一メルトブローイングダイ;
(iii)前記成形マンドレルに隣接して配置される回転収集/移送ローラ;及び
(iv)メルトブローン繊維の第二流を、前記収集/移送ローラの方へ出す第二メルトブローイングダイであって、前記第二メルトブローイングダイは、前記収集/移送ローラに対して、前記収集/移送ローラがメルトブローン繊維の前記第一流からメルトブローン繊維の前記第二流を実質的に遮るような向きにあるもの
を備えており、
(v)前記収集/移送ローラが、前記第二メルトブローイングダイによって出されたメルトブローン繊維の前記第二流を送って、前記第一メルトブローイングダイによって出されたメルトブローン繊維の前記第一流と接触させ、従ってメルトブローン繊維の前記第一流と前記第二流が、前記成形マンドレル上で互いに混ざり合う、濾過体製造装置。 - 複数の前記第一メルトブローイングダイには、実質的に軸方向に一直線に、前記成形マンドレルが備えられている、請求項2に記載の装置。
- 複数の前記第二メルトブローイングダイが備えられている、請求項2に記載の装置。
- 前記第一及び第二メルトブローイングダイの少なくとも1つを調節して、そこから出てくる相対的に異なった直径を有するメルトブローン繊維を得るようにするための調節器を備えている、請求項2に記載の装置。
- 前記収集/移送ローラが円錐形である、請求項2に記載の装置。
- 前記収集/移送ローラに連結された加熱器を備えている、請求項2に記載の装置。
