【技術分野】
本発明は、ギア柱(gear column)と、該ギア柱の一端に接続された電球口金と、上記ギア柱の他端に接続されると共に多数のLEDが設けられた基板とを有するようなLED電球に関する。

【背景技術】
このようなLED(発光ダイオード)電球は、英国特許公報第BG2,239,306号から既知である。更に詳細には、上記公報は装飾目的に好適に使用することができるようなLED電球を記載している。該既知の電球は、BC口金又は大陸型ネジ口金を備える通常の基部と、LEDを動作させるのに要する電子回路を収容するギア柱と、当該電球の長軸方向に見た場合に周方向に対称であると共に多数の個別のLEDが組み込まれた基板とを有している。該電球の動作中に別々のLEDにより発生される色は、異なり得る。調整可能な切換時間制御を用いることにより、該既知の電球によれば、特別な照明効果及び照明パターンを発生することが可能である。

上記既知の電球は、多数の欠点を有している。これら欠点のうちの1つは、該電球のLEDが特別な調整可能な閃光周波数により注意を惹くようにすることにより、該電球は報知目的でしか使用することができない点にある。該既知の電球は、高光束を伴う連続した、一様な照明を提供することはできない。加えて、該既知の電球の製造は比較的複雑である。このことは、該既知の電球が多数のLEDを備えなければならない場合に、特に当てはまる。

【発明の開示】
本発明の目的は、上記欠点を無くすことにある。更に詳細には、本発明は、比較的容易に量産することができ、且つ、高光束の連続した一様な照明が得られるように動作させることが可能なLED電球を提供することを目的とする。

本発明のこれら及び他の目的は、冒頭で述べたような型式のLED電球であって、前記基板が少なくとも4つの面の正多面体を有し、該多面体の面には当該電球の動作中において少なくとも5lmの光束を有するような少なくとも1個のLEDが設けられ、上記ギア柱には前記基板と前記電球口金とを相互接続する熱放散手段が設けられていることを特徴とするLED電球により達成される。

発明された本電球は、連続した、一様な且つ高輝度の照明が達成されるのを可能にする。5lm以上の光束を持つLEDは、電球が熱放散手段を有する場合にのみ効率的に使用することができることが判った。通常の白熱電球は、斯様な高光束を持つようなLEDを備えるLED電球によってのみ置換することが可能である。本発明の特別な特徴は、上記熱放散手段が当該電球の動作中に発生される熱を、前記基板から前記ギア柱を介して、前記電球口金と該口金に接続された主電源とへ取り除く点にある。

少なくとも4つの面の正多面体からなる基板の使用は、意図する一様な照明が達成されるのを可能にする。該正多面体は、好ましくは、頂点を介して前記ギア柱に接続される。しかしながら、該多面体は原理的には上記面のうちの1つの中心でギア柱に接続することもできる。照明の最大の一様さは、上記面の各々に同一形式の同じ数のLEDが設けられる場合に得られる。

本発明に繋がった実験において、好ましい結果は、八面体(8面の正多面体)及び十二面体(12面の正多面体)の形状の多面体により達成することができることが判った。しかしながら、比較的良好な結果は、六面体(6面の多面体、立方体)の形状の基板により達成される。実際には、光分布の良好な一様性が、四面体(4面の正多面体、角錐)の形状の基板を用いて既に得ることができることが判った。他の実施例では、上記基板は、球若しくは楕円体又は球若しくは楕円体の塊のような三次元体を有する。

本LED電球の一つの好ましい実施例は、当該電球に(半)透明な外囲器も設けられていることを特徴とする。この外囲器はガラス製とすることができるが、好ましくは合成樹脂製とする。該外囲器は前記LEDに対する機械的保護として作用する。加えて、該外囲器は当該電球により得ることが可能な一様な照明を得るのに貢献することができる。

本LED電球の更なる興味ある実施例は、前記熱放散手段が、前記基板と前記電球口金との間に金属接続部を有していることを特徴とする。好ましくは銅の層からなる斯かる接続部は、熱を上記基板から上記電球口金へと適切に放散することが判った。原理的には、前記ギア柱全体が、例えば銅又は銅合金等の金属のような熱伝導性材料からなるものとすることができる。この場合、当該ギア柱内に存在する電子回路が該金属ギア柱から適切に電気的に絶縁されるよう保証されねばならない。好ましくは、前記基板も、銅又は銅合金のような金属からなるものとする。

本LED電球の更に他の実施例は、前記ギア柱に当該電球内に空気の流れを生じさせるために使用される手段が組み込まれていることを特徴とする。好ましくはファンの形態であるような斯かる手段は、当該電球の動作中に強制空冷を生じさせるために使用することができる。前記熱放散手段との組み合わせで、この手段は前記ギア柱と基板とからの更なる良好な熱放散が達成されるのを可能にする。

発明された本LED電球の更なる実施例は、前記多面体の面にLEDのアレイが設けられ、該LEDのアレイが、好ましくは、少なくとも1個の緑のLED、少なくとも1個の赤のLED及び少なくとも1個の青のLEDか、又は少なくとも1個の緑のLED、少なくとも1個の赤のLED、少なくとも1個の黄色のLED及び少なくとも1個の青のLEDか、又は少なくとも1個の白のLEDを有することを特徴とする。前記基板の形状のお陰で、斯様なLEDのアレイを、時には別個のLEDアレイとして上記基板の面上に容易に設けることができる。これは、上記多面体基板の面が略平坦である場合に特に当てはまる。斯様なLEDアレイは、通常、平坦なプリント回路基板(PCB)上に設けられた多数のLEDを有する。実際には、上記LEDは平らでない基板には容易には取り付けることはできない。高光束(5lm以上)のLEDが使用される場合には、通常、所謂金属コア(metal-core)PCBが使用される。このようなPCBは比較的高い熱伝導を有する。これらのPCBを熱伝導性接着剤により上記(好ましくは金属の)基板上に設けることにより、上記LEDアレイからギア柱への非常に良好な熱放散が得られる。

発明された本LED電球の更なる興味ある実施例は、当該電球に、前記基板の種々の面上に配設された前記LEDの光束を相互に変化させる手段が設けられていることを特徴とする。この機能に必要な電子回路は、当該電球の前記ギア柱内に組み込まれる。この工夫を用いることにより、当該LED電球の空間光分布を変化させることが可能である。異なる色のLEDが使用される場合は、当該LED電球の色及び色分布を調整することも可能である。上記色の分布及び/又は光分布は、好ましくは、上記ギア柱に前記電球口金の位置で接続された調整環を介して調整される。当該電球に外囲器が使用される場合は、上記調整環が該外囲器の外側に位置しなければならないことは明らかである。

【発明を実施するための最良の形態】
図1は、発明された発光ダイオード電球(LED電球)の第1実施例を示す。この電球は、筒状の中空ギア柱(gear column)1を有し、該ギア柱は一端で電球口金2に接続されている。該ギア柱1の他端は基板3に接続され、該基板には多数のLED4が設けられている。中空ギア柱1内の空間は、LED4を制御するのに要する電子回路を収容している。該電球の動作時には、これらLEDが5lm以上の光束を発生する。該電球には、更に、合成樹脂の外囲器5が設けられ、該外囲器はギア柱1及び基板3を包囲している。外囲器5の存在にも拘わらず、当該LED電球内での本発明の効果は達成されることを強調しておきたい。

ここで述べる例においては、基板3は4つの平面を持つ正角錐の形状を有し、該角錐の頂点を介してギア柱1に接続されている。基板3の外側表面は金属又は金属合金からなり、これによりLED4から柱1への良好な熱伝導を可能にしている。本例においては、上記基板の外側表面は銅合金からなっている。上記角錐の面の各々には、多数の(5個又は6個の)LED4が設けられ、これらLEDは熱伝導性接着剤により上記表面に固着されている。本例では、同一形式の単体LEDが使用され、これらLEDはLED当たり単一の光点のみしか有していない(通常、単チップLEDと呼ばれる)。結果として、図示のLED電球は単色である。

図1に示すLED電球は、当該電球内に空気の流れを生じさせる手段(図示略)も有している。該手段はギア柱1内に組み込まれたファンを有し、該ファンは当該電球の動作時に空気の流れを発生させる。この空気の流れは、上記ギア柱に設けられた孔6を介してギア柱1から離れて、このギア柱に設けられた孔7を介して再び該ギア柱に入る。孔6を適切に形状決め及び位置決めすることにより、上記空気の流れは、基板3上に存在するかなりの数のLEDを通過して導かれるようになる。これにより、上記基板及びLEDからの改善された熱放散が得られる。

図2は、発明されたLED電球の第2実施例を示す。第1実施例と同様に、この実施例は、ギア柱1と、金属電球口金2と、LED4を持つ金属基板3と、外囲器5(不要)とを有すると共に、強制空冷により発生される空気の流れのための出力孔6と入力孔7とを有している。

図2に関連して説明する例においては、基板3は6つの平面を持つ立方体形状であり、該立方体の頂点を介してギア柱1に接続されている。基板3は金属又は金属合金からなり、これによりLED4からギア柱1への良好な熱伝導が達成されるのを可能にしている。本例においては、上記基板は銅合金からなっている。上記立方体の面の各々には多数(8又は9個)のLED4が設けられ、これらLEDは熱伝導性接着剤により上記面に固着されている。本例においては、各々がLED当たり3つの光点(緑、赤及び青)又はLED当たり4つの光点(緑、赤、黄及び青)を持つ多チップLEDが使用されている。これらの色は混合されて、上記LEDの各々の二次光学系において白色光を得るようになっている。結果として、図示のLED電球の動作時には、白色光が得られる。

図2によるLED電球には、上記LEDの光束を同時に変化させるための調整環8も設けられている。この調整環により、該電球は、いわば、調光される。該電球には第2調整環(図示略)も設けることができ、該調整環により、上記基板の異なる面上に設けられたLEDの光束を相互に変化させることができる。この工夫は、当該電球の空間光分布が調整されるのを可能にする。該電球には更なる調整環(図示略)も設けることができ、該調整環により各LEDの3つの光点の光束を相互に変化させることができる。この工夫は、当該電球により放出される光の色が変化されるのを可能にする。

図3は、発明された当該LED電球に好適に使用することができる3つの型式のLED4の概略断面図である。図3のAは、LED当たり単一の光点11しか有さない単チップLEDを有するLEDを示す。この光点11は、良好な熱伝導を担う所謂MC-PCB12上に配置されている。光点11には一次光学系13が設けられ、該光学系により当該LEDの放射特性に影響を与えることができる。当該LED4には、2つの電気接続部14も設けられている。これらの接続部を介して、該LEDは基板3上に半田付けされる。MC-PCB12と基板3との間の熱伝導性接着剤は、当該LEDから当該基板への良好な熱放散を担う。

図4は、非対称な光分布を必要とするようなLED電球の応用を概念的に示している。LED電球20は屋外照明として使用され、建物の壁22に固着された保持部21上に配置されている。上記壁の方向の所要の光束は、反対側のものよりは大幅に小さい。この目的のために要する非対称光分布は、図3を参照して説明したLED電球により容易に調整することができる。

Claims (7)

  1. ギア柱と、該ギア柱の一端に接続された電球口金と、前記ギア柱の他端に接続されると共に多数のLEDが設けられた基板とを有するようなLED電球において、
    前記基板は少なくとも4つの面の正多面体を有し、該多面体の面には当該電球の動作中において少なくとも5lmの光束を有するような少なくとも1個のLEDが設けられ、前記ギア柱には前記基板と前記電球口金とを相互接続する熱放散手段が設けられていることを特徴とするLED電球。
  2. 請求項1に記載のLED電球において、当該電球には(半)透明な外囲器も設けられていることを特徴とするLED電球。
  3. 請求項1に記載のLED電球において、前記熱放散手段が、前記基板と前記電球口金との間に金属接続部を有していることを特徴とするLED電球。
  4. 請求項1に記載のLED電球において、前記ギア柱に当該電球内に空気の流れを生じさせるために使用される手段が組み込まれていることを特徴とするLED電球。
  5. 請求項1に記載のLED電球において、前記多面体の面にはLEDのアレイが設けられ、該LEDのアレイが好ましくは、少なくとも1個の緑のLED、少なくとも1個の赤のLED及び少なくとも1個の青のLEDか、又は少なくとも1個の緑のLED、少なくとも1個の赤のLED、少なくとも1個の黄色のLED及び少なくとも1個の青のLEDか、又は少なくとも1個の白のLEDを有することを特徴とするLED電球。
  6. 請求項1に記載のLED電球において、当該電球に、前記LEDの光束を変化させる手段が設けられていることを特徴とするLED電球。
  7. 請求項1に記載のLED電球において、当該電球に、前記基板の種々の面上に配設された前記LEDの光束を相互に変化させる手段が設けられていることを特徴とするLED電球。
