Description
本発明は、国防高等計画局によって資金を与えられた契約番号MDA972−00−C−0032の下、米国政府の支援によりなされた。米国政府は本発明にある種の権利を有する。
本発明は、部分的には、約90重量パーセント以上の炭素単層ナノチューブを有するファイバー、リボンまたは糸であって、単層カーボンナノチューブの平均直径が約0.6〜0.9nmまでの範囲であるものを提供する。本発明は、さらに部分的には、結合剤や炭素質不純物を含まない単層カーボンナノチューブファイバーを提供する。
Claims (8)
- カーボンナノチューブを含有するフィラメント、リボンまたは糸である構造体の製造方法であって:
カーボンナノチューブの均一な水性懸濁液と界面活性剤とを含む第1の液体を形成するステップと;
前記第1の液体を、ポリマーを含む第2の凝集液体中にジェットとして注入することにより、前記懸濁液を凝集紡糸して前記構造体を形成するステップと;を含み、前記ジェットは、直径が減少していくオリフィスで形成され、前記ジェットは、直径が減少していく管状のチャンネルから、前記ジェットと同軸に流れる第2の凝集液体の環状の流れ内に向けて注入され、これにより、注入点近くに収斂流れ場が形成されるようになされており;さらに
前記構造体を、アニーリング温度で、すなわち前記構造体を水または他の液体に浸した際に膨潤したり機械的強度を損失したりしないように安定化させるのに十分な温度でアニーリングするステップを含む:
カーボンナノチューブを含有するフィラメント、リボンまたは糸である構造体の製造方法。 - 最大アニーリング温度が、約200℃と2100℃の間である請求項1に記載の方法。
- カーボンナノチューブが、単層カーボンナノチューブを含み、該単層カーボンナノチューブの平均直径が約0.6nm〜約0.9nmの範囲にあるか、あるいは、カーボンナノチューブの直径分布が2峰性であり、第1のピークの中心が約0.6nm〜約0.9nmの範囲に位置し、第2のピークの中心が約1.0nm〜約2.0nmの範囲に位置する請求項1に記載の方法。
- カーボンナノチューブの懸濁液が、界面活性剤、水、および金属粒子触媒による一酸化炭素の不均化によって合成されたナノチューブを含む、請求項1に記載の方法。
- 界面活性剤がドデシル硫酸ナトリウムであり、ポリマーがポリ(ビニル)アルコールである請求項1に記載の方法。
- ジェットが、円形、楕円、正方形、または矩形のいずれでもない断面を有するオリフィスで形成されている、請求項1に記載の方法。
- ジェットと同軸で流れる第2の凝集液体の大部分が、収斂流れ場の下流に位置する多孔性の壁を有するフローチューブ部分によって取り除かれる請求項6に記載の方法。
- 各々凝集液体中にナノチューブ構造体を含む2つ以上の液体ストリームが、2つ以上のナノチューブ構造体を含む1つのフローストリームに結合される請求項7に記載の方法。
