Abstract
Description

コーティング組成物も対象とする。
本発明では、モノマーまたは少なくとも1種のモノマーは、カルボン酸アルケニルエステル系モノマー、アクリレート系モノマーおよびスチレン系モノマーから選択される。モノマーの混合物が使用される場合、1種もしくは複数のさらなるカルボン酸アルケニルエステル系、アクリレート系、またはスチレン系モノマー、および/または1種もしくは複数のジエンモノマーも存在することができる。スチレン系モノマーが使用される場合、ジエンコモノマーも典型的には使用される。

実施形態では、少なくとも1種のモノマーは、アクリレート系モノマーであり、例えば、アクリル酸、アクリル酸エステル、アクリル酸無水物、アルキル-アクリル酸、アルキル-アクリル酸エステル、およびアルキル-アクリル酸無水物から選択される。こうしたモノマーは、合計で3~20個、例えば、3~13個の炭素原子を含むことができる。例としては、アクリル酸、メタクリル酸、アクリル酸メチル、アクリル酸n-プロピル、アクリル酸n-ブチル、アクリル酸イソブチル、アクリル酸sec-ブチル、アクリル酸t-ブチル、アクリル酸n-ヘキシル、アクリル酸エチルヘキシル、アクリル酸イソボルニル、メタクリル酸メチル、メタクリル酸エチル、メタクリル酸アリル、メタクリル酸n-ブチル、メタクリル酸イソブチル、メタクリル酸tert-ブチル、メタクリル酸n-ヘキシル、メタクリル酸イソボルニル、アクリル酸無水物、メタクリル酸無水物、アクリル酸2-ヒドロキシエチル、メタクリル酸2-ヒドロキシエチル、アクリル酸ヒドロキシプロピル、メタクリル酸ヒドロキシプロピル;メタクリル酸プロピレングリコール、モノアクリル酸ブタンジオール、メタクリル酸ジメチルアミノエチル、アクリル酸ジエチルアミノエチルおよびメタクリル酸tert-ブチルアミノエチルが挙げられる。
実施形態では、少なくとも1種のモノマーは、スチレン系モノマーであり、例えば、スチレンおよび置換されているスチレンから選択され、典型的には8~12個の範囲の炭素原子を含む。
少なくとも1種のモノマーは、式1であり得る。モノマーの混合物が使用される場合、式1の1種もしくは複数のさらなるモノマー、および/または式2の1種もしくは複数のモノマー、およびまたは1種もしくは複数の他のコモノマーも存在し得る。
式1のモノマー(または最も高い重量含有量で存在する式1のモノマー)と比較したコモノマーの合計量は、0~50重量%の範囲、例えば0~30wt%、0~20重量%、または0.1~10重量%の範囲にあり得る。これらの値は、モノマーの合計量に対するものである。
本発明によるポリマー分散液を製造するために使用することができるコモノマーの組合せの例としては、エチレン/酢酸ビニル、エチレン/酢酸ビニル/バーサチック酸ビニル、エチレン/酢酸ビニル/(メタ)アクリレート、エチレン/酢酸ビニル/塩化ビニル、酢酸ビニル/バーサチック酸ビニル、酢酸ビニル/バーサチック酸ビニル/(メタ)アクリレート、バーサチック酸ビニル/(メタ)アクリレート、アクリレート/メタクリレート、スチレン/アクリレート、スチレン/ブタジエンおよびスチレン/ブタジエン-アクリロニトリルが挙げられる。
本発明のコーティング組成物の一部を形成する水性ポリマー分散液を製造する際に、オルガノシラン官能化コロイダルシリカが水性相に添加される。以下の議論では、「コロイダルシリカ」および「シリカゾル」という用語は同意語である。
- DMは、nm-2単位における表面変性度であり、
- Aは、アボガドロの定数であり、
- Nオルガノシランは、使用されるオルガノシラン反応物のモル数であり、
- Sシリカは、m2g-1での、コロイダルシリカ中のシリカの表面積であり、
- Mシリカは、gでの、コロイダルシリカ中のシリカの質量である]
によって、シリカ表面の平方ナノメートル当たりのシラン分子の数に換算して表現され得る。
変性コロイダルシリカ内のシリカ粒子は、任意選択で、表面上の1種または複数の追加の元素でも変性され得る。1種または複数の元素は、+3または+4の酸化状態を形式的にとることができ、例えば、室温で化学量論M2O3またはMO2を有する固形酸化物を形成することができる。実施形態では、これらは、周期表の第13族および第14族の第2~第5周期から選択される他の元素(すなわち、Ge、Sn、B、Al、Ga、In)、およびさらに遷移金属の第4周期および5周期の遷移元素、例えば、Ti、Cr、Mn、Fe、またはCoである。ZrおよびCeも、表面変性元素として使用することができる。実施形態では、追加の元素は、B、Al、Cr、Ga、In、Ti、Ge、Zr、SnおよびZrから選択される。特定の実施形態では、元素はアルミニウム、ホウ素、チタンおよびジルコニウムから選択される。他の実施形態では、それはアルミニウムおよびホウ素から選択され、さらなる実施形態では、それはアルミニウムである。
実施形態では、オルガノシラン官能化コロイダルシリカの調製に使用されるコロイダルシリカは、極微量しか他の酸化物不純物を含有せず、これは各酸化物不純物について典型的には重量で(全ゾル中に)1000ppm未満で存在するであろう。典型的には、ゾル中に存在する非シリカ酸化物不純物の合計量は、重量で5000ppm未満、好ましくは1000ppm未満である。
重合は、開始剤の存在下で実行される。開始剤は、水溶性であるか、または少なくとも部分的に水溶性である。開始剤は、水性相と有機相が混合される前に、水性相の中に存在し得る。代わりに、開始剤は、有機相と水性相を混合すると同時に、または混合した後に添加され得る。実施形態では、開始剤の少なくともいくらか(典型的には、少なくとも90モル%または少なくとも95モル%)は、重合反応が始まる時、水性相中に残存している。開始剤は、典型的にはラジカル発生開始剤であり、当該技術分野で周知である。典型的な例としては、少なくとも部分的に水溶性の無機過酸化物、有機過酸化物、ペルオキシジカーボネートおよびアゾ化合物が挙げられる。
実施形態では、有機乳濁液は、典型的には、有機モノマー相と水性相を混合することによって形成される。実施形態では、ラジカル開始剤は、水性相に少なくとも部分的に可溶性である。それは、有機相と混合する前に、水性相中に含まれ得る。他の実施形態では、それは、有機相と同時に、水性相に添加され得る。乳濁液の連続相は水性相であり、有機相は分散相である、すなわち、「水中油」型乳濁液である。
水性ポリマーの乳濁液または分散液を安定させるのを助けるために、様々な添加剤が添加され得る。本発明では、これらの安定剤の少なくとも1つは、保護コロイド安定剤である。
実施形態では、ポリマー分散液におけるポリマーは、-25~+45℃、例えば、-25~+35℃、-25~+25℃、または-20~+20℃の範囲のガラス転移温度Tgを有する。さらなる実施形態では、それは-10~+15℃、例えば、0~10℃の範囲にある。分散液は、実施形態では、(例えば、米国特許第8461247号明細書に記述のように)異なるガラス転移温度を有する2種の異なるポリマーを含むことができる。実施形態では、ポリマーの混合物中における、1種または複数の異なるポリマーのTgは、上記範囲内にある。
コーティング組成物は、上述の水性ポリマー分散液を含む。
例えば、以下でさらに詳述されるものから選択される、1種または複数の追加の成分は、コーティング組成物中に存在することができる。
水に加えて、別に添加された、または水性ポリマー分散液の一部で、コーティング組成物は、1種または複数の追加の溶媒、例えば、有機溶媒を含むことができる。しかしながらこうした追加の溶媒の含有量は、水および追加の溶媒の全体量に対して、好ましくは30wt%以下、より好ましくは20wt%以下、さらにより好ましくは10wt%以下である。
コーティング組成物でコートされ得る好適な基材としては、木材、木製系基材(例えば、MDF、チップボード)、金属、石材、プラスチックおよびプラスチックフィルム、天然および合成繊維、ガラス、セラミックス、プラスター、アスファルト、コンクリート、皮革、紙、発泡体、石造物、レンガならびに/または板が挙げられる。
上記議論において、コーティング組成物の成分の濃度が言及されている場合、それらは未乾燥のコーティング組成物、すなわち基材に塗布される前を指している。
23.0gのポリ(ビニルアルコール)、23.7gのオルガノシラン官能化コロイダルシリカ、および1.1gの重炭酸ナトリウムを、反応器中の292g脱イオン水に添加することによって、溶液を調製した。これを、窒素雰囲気下で60℃に加熱した。38.0gの酢酸ビニル(モノマー)および15.0gの1.6wt%過硫酸カリウム水溶液を、次に添加した。15分後に、反応温度は67℃に上昇し、342gの酢酸ビニル(モノマー)および56.0gの1.6wt%過硫酸カリウム溶液を3時間の期間にわたって連続的に添加した。さらに4gの1.6wt%過硫酸カリウム溶液を最終的に添加し、混合物をさらに1時間67℃に維持してから、室温に冷却した。
オルガノシラン官能化コロイダルシリカが、3-グリシドキシプロピルシランでやはり変性され、以下の特性:シリカ含有量15wt%、pH8.0、および表面積500m2g-1、平均粒径5nm(上記式2に基づく)を有するLevasil(登録商標)CC151である点を除いて、例1の手順に従った。DMは、2.0nm-2であった。
オルガノシラン官能化コロイダルシリカを添加しない点を除いて、上記例1の手順に従った。
未官能化(「露出した」)コロイダルシリカ、この場合、30wt%(SiO2として)のシリカ含有量、10のpH、360m2g-1の表面積、および7nmの(上記式2に基づく)粒径を有する、Levasil(登録商標)CT36Mを使用する点を除いて、上記例1の手順に従った。
60μmの湿潤厚さを有する、例1、2および3のそれぞれのフィルムをガラス板上に流延し、周囲条件下で24時間乾燥させた。
未乾燥コーティング組成物の粘度データを、調製した後、および室温で2か月保管した後に収集した。データは、Brookfield LV DV-I+装置上で、スピンドルLV64を使用し、12rpmの速度および20℃の温度で得た。表2は、結果を示す。
Claims (12)
- オルガノシラン官能化コロイダルシリカを含む水性相を開始剤および保護コロイドの存在下で1種または複数のモノマーを含む有機相と混合する、コーティング組成物を調製する方法であって、1種または複数のモノマーの重合が起こって水性ポリマー分散液を形成するように条件が維持され、
(i)前記水性ポリマー分散液が、ポリマー粒子の表面上に保護コロイドを有するポリマー粒子を含み、
(ii)前記オルガノシラン官能化コロイダルシリカが、少なくとも1つの表面結合オルガノシラン部分を有するコロイダルシリカ粒子を含み、
(iii)前記開始剤が、水に少なくとも部分的に可溶性である、
方法。 - 水性ポリマー分散液およびオルガノシラン官能化コロイダルシリカ粒子を含むコーティング組成物であって、
(i)前記水性ポリマー分散液が、ポリマー粒子の表面上に保護コロイドを有するポリマー粒子を含み、
(ii)前記オルガノシラン官能化コロイダルシリカが、少なくとも1つの表面結合オルガノシラン部分を有するコロイダルシリカ粒子を含み、
(iii)前記コロイダルシリカ粒子の少なくとも一部が、保護コロイドと化学的に相互作用する、
コーティング組成物。 - 請求項1に記載の方法によって調製される、コーティング組成物。
- 以下の条件:
i)少なくとも1種のモノマーが、カルボン酸アルケニルから選択される、
ii)前記保護コロイドが、70~100モル%の範囲の加水分解度を有する、鹸化された、または部分的に鹸化されたポリビニルアルコールである、
iii)前記オルガノシラン部分が、任意選択で、ヒドロキシル、チオール、カルボキシル、エステル、エポキシ、アシルオキシ、ケトン、アルデヒド、(メタ)アクリロキシおよびアミノ基から選択される少なくとも1つの基を含む、親水性部分である、
iv)前記開始剤が、無機過酸化物、有機過酸化物、ペルオキシジカーボネートおよびアゾ化合物から選択される、
の1つまたは複数が該当する、請求項1に記載の方法、または請求項2もしくは3に記載のコーティング組成物。 - 以下の条件:
i)2種以上のモノマーが存在し、少なくとも1種のモノマーがカルボン酸アルケニルであり、少なくとも1種が別のカルボン酸アルケニルまたはオレフィンである、
ii)前記オルガノシラン部分が、エポキシ基または少なくとも1つのヒドロキシル基を含む、
の1つまたは複数が該当する、請求項4に記載の方法またはコーティング組成物。 - 以下の条件:
i)乾燥前の前記コーティング組成物のシリカ含有量が、0.01~5wt%の範囲にある、
ii)保護コロイドおよびモノマーの全量に対する、保護コロイドの量が、1~30wt%の範囲にある、
iii)前記水性ポリマー分散液もしくは乳濁液中および/または未乾燥コーティング組成物中のポリマーの量が、20~80wt%の範囲にある、
iv)前記水性ポリマー分散液または乳濁液中のポリマーのTgが、-25~+45℃の範囲にある、
v)前記未乾燥コーティング組成物のVOC含有量が5000ppm未満である、
vi)前記水性ポリマー分散液または乳濁液中の前記ポリマー粒子または小滴の体積基準メジアン粒径が、1.5μmである、
の1つまたは複数が該当する、請求項1から5のいずれか一項に記載の方法またはコーティング組成物。 - (i)前記ポリマーが、酢酸ビニルホモポリマーもしくは酢酸ビニル-エチレンコポリマーである、および/または
(ii)前記オルガノシラン部分が、3-グリシジルオキシプロピルシランである、
請求項1から6のいずれか一項に記載の方法またはコーティング組成物。 - コーティングの耐汚染性を改善するための、オルガノシラン官能化コロイダルシリカ粒子の使用であって、前記オルガノシラン官能化コロイダルシリカ粒子が、少なくとも1つの表面結合オルガノシラン部分を含む、使用。
- 前記オルガノシラン部分が親水性であり、任意選択でヒドロキシル、チオール、カルボキシル、エステル、エポキシ、アシルオキシ、ケトン、アルデヒド、(メタ)アクリロキシおよびアミノ基から選択される少なくとも1つの基を含む、請求項8に記載の使用。
- 前記コーティングがポリマーバインダーを含む、請求項8から10のいずれか一項に記載の使用。
- 前記ポリマーバインダーが、少なくとも1種のカルボン酸アルケニルモノマーから製造され、かつ任意選択で保護コロイドも含む、請求項10に記載の使用。
- 前記コーティングが、請求項2から7のいずれか一項に記載のコーティング組成物から製造されている、請求項7から11のいずれか一項に記載の使用。
