Abstract
Description
本願は、2013年7月29日に出願され、発明の名称が「摩耗が改善されたポリテトラフルオロエチレン(PTFE)繊維及びその製造方法(Improved Wear Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) Fiber and Method of Making Same)」である米国非仮特許出願13/953,401に基づく優先権を主張し、その全内容を参照により本明細書に組み込む。
本発明は、分散紡糸(dispersion spun)フルオロポリマー繊維に関し、特に、非溶融加工性で高分子量のポリテトラフルオロエチレン粒子と酸化アルミニウム粒子とから製造される分散紡糸フルオロポリマー繊維に関する。
本発明に用いられる分散体に使用されるポリテトラフルオロエチレン粒子は、変性PTFEを含めたポリテトラフルオロエチレン(PTFE)の非溶融加工性粒子である。ポリテトラフルオロエチレン(PTFE)は、顕著なコモノマーを含まない、重合テトラフルオロエチレン自体を指す。変性PTFEは、PTFEと、得られるポリマーの融点がPTFEの融点よりも実質的に低くならない程度の低濃度のコモノマーとのコポリマーを意味する。そのようなコモノマーの濃度は、好ましくは1重量%未満、より好ましくは0.5重量%未満である。変性PTFEは、ペルフルオロオレフィン、特にはヘキサフルオロプロピレン(HFP)又はペルフルオロ(アルキルビニル)エーテル(PAVE)(アルキル基は1〜5個の炭素原子を含む)などの、焼成(融合)の際のフィルム形成能を向上させるコモノマー改質剤を少量含有し、ペルフルオロ(エチルビニルエーテル)エーテル(PEVE)及びペルフルオロ(プロピルビニル)エーテル(PPVE)が好ましい。クロロトリフルオロエチレン(CTFE)、パーフルオロブチルエチレン(PFBE)、又は分子内に嵩高い側基を導入する他のモノマーも挙げられる。PTFEは、典型的には少なくとも1×109Pa・sの溶融クリープ粘度を有する。本発明において使用される分散体中の樹脂は、単離及び乾燥させた時に非溶融加工性である。このような高溶融粘度は、PTFEが溶融状態で溶融せず、従って、非溶融加工性であることを示す。
酸化アルミニウムは、いくつかの酸化アルミニウムの中で最も一般に存在し、具体的にはアルミニウム(III)酸化物と同定される。Al2O3は、多くの場合、アルミニウム金属を製造するために、その硬度のために研磨材として、また、融点が高いために耐火材料として、使用される。Al2O3は電気絶縁体であるが、セラミック材料に対して比較的高い熱伝導率(30Wm−1K−1)を有する。酸化アルミニウムは、水には完全に不溶性であり、その硬度のために、研磨材として、また、切削工具中の部品として使用するのに適している。酸化アルミニウムは、金属アルミニウムの耐候性を担う。酸素と接触すると、いずれの露出アルミニウム層の表面上にも酸化アルミニウムの形の薄い保護層(4nm程度)が形成される。この層は、金属をさらなる酸化から保護し、耐食性を向上させ、硬度を高める。
本発明は、マトリックスポリマーの水性溶液と、Al2O3粒子及び約2.40未満、典型的には約2.14〜約2.40のSSGを有する非溶融加工性ポリテトラフルオロエチレン粒子の水性分散体と、の混合物を含有する、非溶融加工性フルオロポリマー繊維の分散紡糸に有用な紡糸組成物を提供する。好ましい実施形態では、非溶融加工性ポリテトラフルオロエチレン粒子は、2.30未満、より好ましくは約2.25未満のSSGを有する。
3通りに充填されたPTFEビニルエステルフィルム(Al2O3濃度0%、0.1%、及び1.0%)を本発明に従って調製し、各試料について摩耗率及び摩擦係数を測定した。本明細書に具体的に記載されていないが、PTFEフィルムの製造に、他のAl2O3濃度を使用することができることが当業者に理解されるであろう。また、フィルムの製造を助けるために、ビニルエステル混合物に他の成分を非常に低濃度で添加してもよい。
1.POD試験により、各ビニルエステルフィルム試料の摩擦係数を決定した。
2.POD試験によりビニルエステルフィルム試料上に付与された各摩耗トラック幅をSEMを用いて測定した。
3.光学顕微鏡を、POD試験後の摩耗痕の直径を測定するために使用した。
4.摩耗痕の面積を計算した。
5.TriboXソフトウェア(CSM Instruments Peseux、スイス)を、ビニルエステルフィルムの摩耗率を算出するために使用した。
Claims (10)
- 酸化アルミニウムを含有するフルオロポリマー繊維を製造する方法であって、
非溶融加工性ポリテトラフルオロエチレン粒子及び酸化アルミニウム粒子の水性分散体と、マトリックスポリマーの水溶液との混合物を形成する工程、
混合物を凝固浴中に押出し、凝固浴中でマトリックスポリマーを凝固させることによって、中間繊維構造を形成する工程、及び
中間繊維構造を焼結して、マトリックスポリマーを分解させ、ブレンド繊維中にポリテトラフルオロエチレン粒子と酸化アルミニウム粒子とを融合させる工程
を含む方法。 - 混合物中の酸化アルミニウム粒子の濃度が約0.1%〜5%である、請求項1に記載の方法。
- 非溶融加工性ポリテトラフルオロエチレン粒子と酸化アルミニウム粒子とのブレンドを含有する、フルオロポリマー繊維。
- 最大約95%のパーフルオロアルコキシ粒子と、最大約5%の酸化アルミニウム粒子とを含有する、請求項3に記載のフルオロポリマー繊維。
- 最大連続使用温度が約260℃である、請求項3に記載のフルオロポリマー繊維。
- 靭性が少なくとも約1.4gf/denである、請求項3に記載のフルオロポリマー繊維。
- 破断伸びが約10%である、請求項3に記載のフルオロポリマー繊維。
- ポリテトラフルオロエチレン粒子と酸化アルミニウム粒子とを含有する連続マルチフィラメント糸を含有する、フルオロポリマー繊維。
- ポリテトラフルオロエチレン粒子及び酸化アルミニウム粒子が、融合及び絡合している、請求項8に記載のフルオロポリマー繊維。
- マトリックスポリマーをさらに含有する、請求項8に記載のフルオロポリマー繊維。
