陽極は陰極にたいしてセパレータ405の向かい側にある。陽極にも電気化学的活性層407及び電極下地層409が含まれる。陽極の層407には水酸化ニッケル、酸化ニッケル、及び/又はオキシ水酸化ニッケルが電気化学的活性物質として、種々の添加剤と共に含まれてよい。これらはすべて上記の如くである。電極下地層409は例えばニッケル泡状マトリクス、又はニッケル金属シートであってよい。ニッケル泡状マトリクスが使用される場合、層407は一つの連続的電極となることに留意されたい。
