Abstract
Description
本明細書で使用される「電気化学電池」は、化学エネルギーを電気エネルギーに変換する、または電気エネルギーを化学エネルギーに変換するデバイスを指す。電気化学電池の実施例は、ガルバニ電池、電解電池、電解槽、燃料電池、バッテリ、および亜鉛空気燃料電池またはバッテリ等の金属空気電池を含み得る。本発明によれば、燃料電池および適切な材料を含む、任意の好適な種類の電気化学電池を使用することができる。
実施例では、封入領域は、約0.05mm以下等の、結合部材の断面厚さにほぼ等しい厚さを有する。別の実施例では、流体マニホールドおよび少なくとも1つの燃料電池は、約5mm以下、約2mm以下、または約0.6以下の複合断面厚さを有する。
Claims (30)
- 2つ以上の導電性構成要素であって、各導電性構成要素が1つ以上の導電性通路を有する、2つ以上の導電性構成要素と、
1つ以上の誘電構成要素であって、各誘電構成要素が1つ以上のイオン伝導性通路を有する、1つ以上の誘電構成要素と
を備え、該導電性構成要素および該誘電構成要素は、流体的に不透過性の複合層を提供するように隣接して配置されている、
電気化学電池用のイオン伝導性複合層。 - 前記複合層は、可撓性である、請求項1に記載のイオン伝導性複合層。
- 前記導電性構成要素のそれぞれは、第1の材料を備え、前記誘電構成要素のそれぞれは、第2の材料を備え、該第1の材料および該第2の材料は、相互作用する、請求項1または2のうちのいずれかに記載のイオン伝導性複合層。
- 前記第1の材料および前記第2の材料は、化学的に相互作用する、請求項3に記載のイオン伝導性複合層。
- 前記導電性構成要素および前記イオン伝導性構成要素は、物理的に相互作用する、請求項3または4のうちのいずれかに記載のイオン伝導性複合層。
- 前記導電性構成要素は、金属、金属発泡体、炭素質材料、黒鉛複合材、伝導性エポキシ、伝導性ポリマー、伝導性セラミック、炭素繊維、炭素織布、引抜成形複合材、膨張黒鉛、黒鉛、ガラス状炭素、炭素、エポキシ、黒鉛充填エポキシ、黒鉛充填ポリマー、またはそれらの組み合わせを備える、請求項1〜5のうちのいずれかに記載のイオン伝導性複合層。
- 前記導電性通路は、前記複合層の第1の表面から前記複合層の第2の表面まで延在する、請求項1〜6のうちのいずれかに記載のイオン伝導性複合層。
- 界面領域をさらに備え、該界面領域は、隣接する誘電構成要素と伝導性構成要素との間に配置される、請求項1〜7のうちのいずれかに記載のイオン伝導性複合層。
- 前記界面領域は、結合界面を提供して、前記誘電構成要素と前記伝導性構成要素との間の接着を推進するように適合される、請求項8に記載のイオン伝導性複合層。
- 前記界面領域の幅は、約15マイクロメートル以上である、請求項8または9のうちのいずれかに記載のイオン伝導性複合層。
- 前記界面領域の幅は、約200マイクロメートル以上である、請求項8または9のうちのいずれかに記載のイオン伝導性複合層。
- 前記導電性構成要素および前記誘電構成要素は、実質的に並列の細片で配置される、請求項1〜11のうちのいずれかに記載のイオン伝導性複合層。
- 前記誘電構成要素および前記伝導性構成要素は、幅が2ミリメートル以下である、請求項12に記載のイオン伝導性複合層。
- 前記複合層は、15psi以下の圧力差において実質的に流体不透過性である、請求項1〜13のうちのいずれかに記載のイオン伝導性複合層。
- 電気化学電池アレイであって、
第1の側面および第2の側面を有する、複合層であって、
2つ以上の導電性構成要素であって、各導電性構成要素が1つ以上の導電性通路を有する、2つ以上の導電性構成要素と、
1つ以上の誘電構成要素であって、各誘電構成要素が1つ以上のイオン伝導性通路を有する、1つ以上の誘電構成要素と、
を含み、該導電性構成要素および該誘電構成要素は、隣接して配置されている、複合層と、
該複合層の該第1の側面と接触している1つ以上の第1の被覆と、
該複合層の該第2の側面と接触している1つ以上の第2の被覆と
を備え、
各第1の被覆は、第1の誘電構成要素の該イオン伝導性通路のうちの少なくとも1つと接触し、かつ第1の導電性構成要素の該導電性通路のうちの少なくとも1つと電気接触しており、
各第2の被覆は、該アレイの中の隣接する電気化学電池の間で、該複合層の該第1の側面から該複合層の該第2の側面までの導電性経路を提供するのに十分であるように、第2の誘電構成要素の該イオン伝導性通路のうちの少なくとも1つと接触し、かつ該第1の導電性構成要素の該少なくとも1つの導電性通路と電気接触している、
電気化学電池アレイ。 - 前記第1の被覆および前記第2の被覆の一方または両方は、触媒活性材料を含む、請求項15に記載の電気化学電池アレイ。
- 界面領域をさらに備え、該界面領域は、隣接する誘電構成要素と伝導性構成要素との間に配置される、請求項15または16のうちのいずれかに記載の電気化学電池アレイ。
- 前記界面領域は、結合界面を提供して、前記誘電構成要素と前記伝導性構成要素との間の接着を推進するように適合される、請求項17に記載の電気化学電池アレイ。
- 前記界面領域の幅は、電気的不連続性が、隣接する電気化学電池の被覆の間に形成されることを可能にするのに十分な大きさである、請求項17または18のうちのいずれかに記載の電気化学電池アレイ。
- 前記電気化学電池は、燃料電池を備える、請求項15〜19のうちのいずれかに記載の電気化学電池アレイ。

対応する界面領域にごく接近し、該界面領域と接触するアイオノマーディスパージョンを流し込むことによって、少なくとも1つの誘電構成要素を形成することと、
流体不透過性の複合層を形成するのに十分な該アイオノマーディスパージョンを硬化させることと、
該複合層の第1の表面上に少なくとも1つの被覆を配置することと
を含み、該被覆は、1つの誘電構成要素、第1の隣接する導電性構成要素、および界面領域と接触している、
