Abstract
【解決手段】車両の排気パイプ構造であって、左側マニホールドを連結し、エンジンの後方に向かうように延びた左側排気パイプと、右側マニホールドを連結し、エンジンの前方に向かうように形成された直線部、直線部において折り曲げられ、左側排気パイプに平行になるように配置された折曲部とからなる右側排気パイプと、右側排気パイプの折曲部の末端と左側排気パイプの末端が各々連結され、内部で合流するように開通し、触媒コンバーターに連結される合流部とを含んで構成されることを特徴とする。

Description
前記のような駆動方式は各々長短所があるが、この中、乗用車両の場合、一般的にFR(Front engine、Rear wheel drive)と共にFF(Front engine、Front wheel drive)駆動方式が広く利用されている。
このようなV型エンジンが車両に取り付けられる場合、車両の駆動方式に応じて排気システムの配管構造は異なるように製作される。
図2に示すように、FRタイプの車両は、エンジンシリンダーの配列が車両の前後方向に沿って配置されるようにエンジンが搭載されるため、エンジン両側のマニホールドから各々の排気パイプを長く延長させることができ、各々の排気パイプの中間に触媒コンバーター(UCC:Underbody Catalytic converter)(12a、12b)を各々配置することができる。しかし、何よりも両側のマニホールド(10a、10b)が合流する位置をエンジンのシリンダーから遠く配置して排気干渉を減らすことができる。
勿論、触媒コンバーターを後方に配置し、合流する部分をより後方に形成して排気干渉を減らすこともできるが、この場合、燃焼ガスの温度が下がって触媒コンバーターが正しく作動できない問題点が発生する。特許文献1参照。
図3を参照すれば、本発明の排気パイプは、左側マニホールド10bがエンジンの前方、すなわち、車両の前方側に配置され、右側マニホールド10aがエンジンの後方に配置されたエンジンの下部において結合される。
図示したように、燃焼ガスが多く排出され、排気パイプ内で圧力がより高いrpm領域では特に差は出ないが、排気パイプ内で圧力が相対的に低いrpm領域では排気干渉現象が抑制され、本発明の排気パイプが従来の排気パイプより4〜8%のトルク向上があることを確認することができた。

Claims (4)
- エンジンの前方に配置された左側マニホールドとエンジンの後方に配置された右側マニホールドを触媒コンバーター(UCC)に連結する車両の排気パイプ構造であって、
前記左側マニホールドを連結し、エンジンの後方に向かうように延びた左側排気パイプと、
前記右側マニホールドを連結し、エンジンの前方に向かうように形成された直線部、前記直線部において折り曲げられ、前記左側排気パイプに平行になるように配置された折曲部とからなる右側排気パイプと、
前記右側排気パイプの折曲部の末端と左側排気パイプの末端が各々連結され、内部で合流するように開通し、前記触媒コンバーター(UCC)に連結される合流部と、
を含んで構成され、
前記右側排気パイプの折曲部と左側排気パイプは、外周面において面接触して結合し、面接触する部分は各々が互いに対向する半円管(semi−circular pipe)形状に形成されることを特徴とする車両の排気パイプ構造。 - 前記合流部が前記右側排気パイプの後方に配置されるように折曲部の長さが直線部の長さより長く形成されることを特徴とする請求項1に記載の車両の排気パイプ構造。
- 前記合流部は左側排気パイプと右側排気パイプから伝達される振動を減殺させる絶縁部材を含んで構成され、前記絶縁部材を介して前記触媒コンバーター(UCC)に連結されることを特徴とする請求項1または2に記載の車両の排気パイプ構造。
- 前記右側排気パイプの折曲部と左側排気パイプに形成された半円管はハイドロフォーミング(Hydro−forming)加工によって製造されることを特徴とする請求項3に記載の車両の排気パイプ構造。
