Abstract
【解決手段】本発明は、組成が、MgO・nAl2O3 (1.05≦n≦1.30)であり、Si元素の含有量が20ppm以下であるスピネル焼結体の製造方法であって、Si元素の含有量が50ppm以下であり、純度が99.5質量%以上であるスピネル粉末から成形体を形成する工程と、成形体を真空中において1500℃〜1700℃で焼結することにより、密度95%以上の焼結体を形成する第1の焼結工程と、焼結体を1600℃〜1800℃で加圧焼結する第2の焼結工程とを備える。

本発明のスピネル焼結体は、組成が、MgO・nAl2O3 (1.05≦n≦1.30)であり、Si元素の含有量が20ppm以下である。このスピネル焼結体は、厚さ1mmでの波長350nm〜450nmの可視光線による直線透過率が、好ましくは80%以上であり、より好ましくは82%以上であり、特に好ましくは84%以上であり、直線透過率が十分に高い。また、安定して高い光透過率が得られ、バラツキが小さい。さらに、厚みのある素材でも、可視光線に対して安定した高い透過率が得られる。したがって、発光ダイオード、レーザデバイス、液晶プロジェクター、リアプロジェクションテレビまたはデジタルマイクロミラーデバイスなどの発光装置用の偏光板もしくは防塵窓などの光透過窓または光透過レンズを含む透明基板の材料として好適である。このため、本発明の透明基板を備える液晶プロジェクターは、光源からの可視光線の直線透過率が高く、照度ムラが小さい。
本発明のスピネル焼結体の製造方法は、Si元素の含有量が50ppm以下で、純度が99.5質量%以上であるスピネル粉末から成形体を形成する工程と、成形体を真空中において1500℃〜1700℃で焼結することにより、密度95%以上の焼結体を形成する第1の焼結工程と、焼結体を1600℃〜1800℃で加圧焼結する第2の焼結工程とを備える。この方法により、組成が、MgO・nAl2O3 (1.05≦n≦1.30)であり、Si元素の含有量が20ppm以下であるスピネル焼結体を製造することができ、安定して高い光透過率を有し、光透過率のバラツキが小さいレンズまたは光透過窓を提供することができる。

本実施例では、原料であるスピネル粉末中のSi元素の含有量を50ppm以下で種々変更し、スピネル焼結体を形成後、光透過率を検討した。まず、純度が99.5質量%であり、表1に示すような不純物元素含有量のスピネル粉末を用い、成形後、CIPによりφ95mm×L95mmに加工した。つぎに、1℃/分の昇温条件で、圧力20Paの真空中、1600℃で第1の焼結工程を実施した。得られた焼結体の密度は95%〜97%であった。
本実施例では、第1の焼結工程における昇温時間tを変更し(Dは一定)、

- 組成が、MgO・nAl2O3 (1.05≦n≦1.30)であり、Si元素の含有量が20ppm以下であるスピネル焼結体。
- 前記焼結体は、厚さ1mmでの波長350nm〜450nmの光線による直線透過率が80%以上である請求項1に記載のスピネル焼結体。
- 組成が、MgO・nAl2O3 (1.05≦n≦1.30)であり、Si元素の含有量が20ppm以下であるスピネル焼結体の製造方法であって、
Si元素の含有量が50ppm以下であり、純度が99.5質量%以上であるスピネル粉末から成形体を形成する工程と、
前記成形体を真空中において1500℃〜1700℃で焼結することにより、密度95%以上の焼結体を形成する第1の焼結工程と、
前記焼結体を1600℃〜1800℃で加圧焼結する第2の焼結工程と
を備えるスピネル焼結体の製造方法。 - 第1の焼結工程により形成する前記焼結体は、Si元素の含有量が20ppm以下である請求項3に記載のスピネル焼結体の製造方法。
