Abstract
【解決手段】有機EL素子に電流を供給するゲートドライバIC3の電力消費による発熱温度を検出して温度情報を出力する温度検出手段4と、温度検出手段4からの温度情報に基づいて上記有機EL素子への供給電流を制御する画像処理回路5と、を備えたものである。これにより、表示パネルの温度制御を簡単な構成で効率よく行なうことができる。

Description
例えば、全白色の駆動状態においては、表示パネル1の全有機EL素子8に対して駆動電流iのピーク電流が供給されている。これにより、ゲートドライバIC3の電力消費が増大し、ゲートドライバIC3が発熱する。
以上説明した本発明に係る表示装置は、図11〜図15に示す様々な電子機器、例えば、デジタルカメラ、ノート型パーソナルコンピュータ、携帯電話等の携帯端末装置、ビデオカメラなど、電子機器に入力された映像信号、若しくは、電子機器内で生成した映像信号を、画像若しくは映像として表示するあらゆる分野の電子機器の表示装置に適用することが可能である。以下に、本発明が適用される電子機器の一例について説明する。

Claims (8)
- 表示パネル上に電流値によって輝度が制御される多数の発光素子をマトリクス状に配置した表示装置であって、
前記発光素子に電流を供給する駆動ICの電力消費による発熱温度を検出して温度情報を出力する検出手段と、
前記検出手段からの温度情報に基づいて前記発光素子への供給電流を制御する画像処理回路と、
を備えたことを特徴とする表示装置。 - 前記駆動ICは、前記表示パネルが水平方向に複数の領域に分割された各領域に対応してそれぞれ一つ設けられ、各領域内の発光素子を電流駆動することを特徴とする請求項1記載の表示装置。
- 前記検出手段は、前記駆動ICの発熱温度を検出する感熱部を備えたことを特徴とする請求項1記載の表示装置。
- 前記感熱部は、順方向降下電圧が温度によって変化するダイオード構造を有したものであることを特徴とする請求項3記載の表示装置。
- 前記検出手段は、前記駆動ICの駆動電流の入力部に該駆動ICの電力消費を検出する消費電力検出回路を備えたことを特徴とする請求項1記載の表示装置。
- 前記画像処理回路は、前記検出手段からの温度情報に基づいて画像データの増幅度及び発光素子の発光時間のうちいずれか一方、又は両方を制御することにより発光素子への供給電流を制御することを特徴とする請求項1記載の表示装置。
- 前記発光素子は、有機エレクトロルミネッセンス素子であることを特徴とする請求項1記載の表示装置。
- 表示パネル上に電流値によって輝度が制御される多数の発光素子をマトリクス状に配置した表示装置を有する電子機器であって、
前記発光素子に電流を供給する駆動ICの電力消費による発熱温度を検出して温度情報を出力する検出手段と、
前記検出手段からの温度情報に基づいて前記発光素子への供給電流を制御する画像処理回路と、
を備えたことを特徴とする電子機器。
