Abstract
Description
Saint-Gobain Ceramics and Plastics, Inc., Worcester, MAから得られる「38A」と呼ばれる砥粒を使用して、11種の対照試料を調製した。この砥粒は白色の脆いアランダムであり、湿式研削プロセス中に使用されると、不良の強度保留性を示すことが知られている。Witco Corp., Greenwich CTからアミノプロピルトリエトキシシランを得た。Oxychem-Durez, Buffalo, NYから液状フェノール樹脂(LPR)を得た。9%ヘキサを含有する2種の乾燥フェノール樹脂ボンドA及びBをOxychem-Durez, Buffalo, NYから得た。両樹脂をデシルアルコール(TDA)(20cm3/lb)乾燥樹脂で湿潤し、これによりダストを制御した。両ボンドA及びBは、中度の流動性と中度の分子量とを有した。
実施例1に記載したように調製された未処理試験片を、10、25及び75立方センチメートル(cm3又はcc)の水の存在において、密閉容器内に置いた。この水は、小型金属パンに添加し、容器の底に置いた。試験片は、水パンの上方の固形セラミック・バット上に置いた。硬化中、容器全体にわたって蒸気を容易に蒸発させることができた。硬化中に容器内の水の容積を調節することにより、硬化中の水濃度(蒸気の分圧)が湿潤強度に与える効果を評価した。試験片から生じた結果に基づいて、湿潤強度を最大化するのに十分な量の水を使用した。硬化条件は、実施例1において記載したものと同じであった。但し、この実施例2の場合、湿分は硬化の間中存在した。
また、硬化中に1気圧の蒸気を炉に導入することにより、湿分の効果を調査した。
硬化中のRH(%)並びに湿度制御の継続時間を、6-3/16" X 3-3/8"の試験スラグを使用して調査した。実施例1に記載されたゴム改質乾燥樹脂(ボンドA)を採用して、実施例1に記載されたように未処理スラグを調製した。
RH=(p/po) x 100%又はRH=1/po x 100%
上記式中、pは系の圧力(1atmを想定)であり、poは所与の温度における水の蒸気圧(この値は下記表の第3欄に報告されている)である。
標準砥石車を成形して、完成サイズ5.0"(127.00mm) x 0.200"(5.08mm) x 1.25(31.75mm)のために、5.125"(130.175mm) x 0.40"(10.16mm) x 1.0"(25.4mm)にした。これらの砥石車は、砥粒、シラン、レゾール及び実施例1において記載されている乾燥ボンドAを採用して製造した。
有機ボンド研磨製品における高級シーディング処理ゲル(SG)アルミナ研磨材の使用を、表面スロット研削において調査した。高級(焼結)シーディング処理ゾルゲル・アルファ・アルミナ粒子と38Aアランダム粒子(両方ともSaint-Gobain Ceramics & Plastics, Inc.から入手)とを30/70の重量でブレンドしたものを採用して、標準砥石車を形成した。常用の技術を用いて硬化された砥石車を、実施例2において記載した湿分制御ベーク・サイクルを用いて硬化された砥石車と比較して評価した。
広域接触面研磨を竪型スピンドル・グラインダで行うために、一連の5"(127.00mm) x 2"(50.8mm) x 1.5"(38.10mm)のカップ砥石車を形成した。この試験のために採用したボンド系は下記の通りである:
本発明の方法により製造された砥石車に破裂試験を施した。使用した仕様を以下に示す。
実施例7に記載されたボンドC、及び実施例1に記載されたボンドAで、破裂試験用砥石車(12"(304.79mm) x 1"(25.4mm) x 4"(101.60mm))を作製した。軟質等級及び粗いグリットを使用して、湿潤破裂強さを試験した。ボンドC及びボンドAの双方において、湿潤強度が低いことが判っている38A研磨材を使用して、これらの試験を実施した。表面研削用途のための試験仕様はボンドA、試験片#7Aであり、ディスク研削用途のための試験仕様はボンドC、試験片#4Cであった。上述の常用のラッピングにより、標準製品を調製した。最小認定速度及び湿潤破裂データを第8表に示す。
標準試料、及び湿分を含む雰囲気中で熱硬化された試料の両方を、実施例5に記載された手順に従って調製した。(ボンドA、試験片#3A及び4A)。得られた試料を、加圧抽出容器(オートクレーブ)内に水と一緒に入れ、これにより試料からアンモニアを抽出した。オートクレーブを炉から取り出し、反応器を開く前に急冷した。得られた水性抽出物中のアンモニアレベルを、総ケルダール窒素(TKN)のEPA法351.3を用いて分析した。結果を第9表に示す。
Claims (29)
- 有機ボンド研磨物品の製造方法であって:
a) 砥粒成分とフェノール系樹脂成分とを合体させる工程と;
b) 該合体された成分を成形する工程と;
c) 該成形された成分と接触する、湿分を含む雰囲気中でフェノール系樹脂成分を熱硬化し、これにより、有機ボンド研磨物品を製造する工程と
を含むことを特徴とする、有機ボンド研磨物品の製造方法。 - 該砥粒成分がアルミナ粒子である、請求項1に記載の方法。
- 該フェノール系樹脂成分が液状のフェノール系樹脂を含む、請求項1に記載の方法。
- 該フェノール系樹脂成分がレゾールを含む、請求項1に記載の方法。
- 該レゾールが水中に溶解されている、請求項4に記載の方法。
- 該フェノール系樹脂成分がノボラック樹脂を含む、請求項1に記載の方法。
- 該方法が、該砥粒成分と、該フェノール系樹脂成分と、有機ケイ素成分とを合体させることを含む、請求項1に記載の方法。
- 該砥粒成分を該有機ケイ素成分と合体させることにより、有機ケイ素処理砥粒を形成し、次いで該砥粒を該フェノール系樹脂成分と合体させる、請求項7に記載の方法。
- 該有機ケイ素処理砥粒を先ず液状のフェノール系樹脂と合体させ、次いで粉末状のフェノール系樹脂と合体させる、請求項8に記載の方法。
- 該有機ケイ素成分を該フェノール系樹脂と合体させ、次いで該砥粒と合体させる、請求項7に記載の方法。
- 熱硬化の最終硬化温度が最小約150℃である、請求項1に記載の方法。
- 前記雰囲気がさらに空気を含む、請求項1に記載の方法。
- 前記雰囲気がさらにアンモニアを含む、請求項1に記載の方法。
- 該熱硬化が蒸気の存在において行われる、請求項1に記載の方法。
- 該熱硬化が生蒸気の存在において行われる、請求項14に記載の方法。
- 該熱硬化がチャンバ内で行われ、そして該蒸気が該チャンバ内を再循環される、請求項15に記載の方法。
- 前記雰囲気が、最小5時間にわたって存在する、請求項1に記載の方法。
- 該フェノール系樹脂成分を熱硬化する前に、前記雰囲気が該合体された成分と接触する、請求項1に記載の方法。
- 該熱硬化が、大気圧を上回る圧力で保持されたチャンバ内で行われる、請求項1に記載の方法。
- 研磨物品であって:
a) 砥粒成分とフェノール系樹脂成分とを合体させる工程と;
b) 該合体された成分を成形することにより未処理ボディを形成する工程と;
c) 該未処理ボディと接触する、湿分を含む雰囲気中でフェノール系樹脂成分を熱硬化し、これにより、有機ボンド研磨物品を製造する工程と
を含む方法により製造されることを特徴とする、研磨物品。 - 該方法が、該砥粒成分と、該フェノール系樹脂成分と、有機ケイ素成分とを合体させることを含む、請求項20に記載の研磨物品。
- 該有機ケイ素成分を該砥粒成分と合体させることにより、有機ケイ素処理砥粒を形成し、次いで該砥粒を該フェノール系樹脂成分と合体させる、請求項21に記載の研磨物品。
- 研磨物品であって:
a) 砥粒成分とフェノール系樹脂成分とを合体させる工程と;
b) 該合体された成分を成形することにより未処理ボディを形成する工程と;
c) 該未処理ボディと接触する、湿分を含む雰囲気中でフェノール系樹脂成分を熱硬化し、これにより、アンモニア含有率が約50ppm未満の有機ボンド研磨物品を製造する工程と
を含む方法により製造されることを特徴とする、砥石物品。 - 該砥粒を有機ケイ素成分と合体させる工程をさらに含む、請求項23に記載の研磨物品。
- 該砥粒成分を該有機ケイ素成分と合体させ、その後、該フェノール系樹脂成分と合体させる、請求項24に記載の研磨物品。
- ケルダール窒素ガス分析によって、砥石車内に存在するアンモニアの量を測定する工程をさらに含む、請求項23に記載の研磨物品。
- 砥石車であって:
a) 砥粒成分とフェノール系樹脂成分とを合体させる工程と;
b) 該合体された成分を成形することにより未処理ボディを形成する工程と;
c) 該未処理ボディと接触する、湿分を含む雰囲気中でフェノール系樹脂成分を熱硬化し、これにより、強度の保留率が約57%を上回る有機ボンド研磨物品を製造する工程と
を含む方法により製造されることを特徴とする、砥石車。 - 該方法が、該砥粒成分と、該フェノール系樹脂成分と、有機ケイ素成分とを合体させることを含む、請求項27に記載の研磨物品。
- 該有機ケイ素成分を該砥粒成分と合体させることにより、有機ケイ素処理砥粒を形成し、次いで該砥粒を該フェノール系樹脂成分と合体させる、請求項28に記載の研磨物品。
