Abstract
【解決手段】プラスチック材料からなる基板2上に陰極3、少なくとも発光層を含む有機化合物薄膜4、及び陽極5をこの順に積層して形成されるとともに、平面から見て陰極3の内側に有機化合物薄膜4が位置するように陰極3と有機化合物薄膜4とが配置される。有機エレクトロルミネッセンス素子部6は、保護膜7によって覆われる。陽極5の一部が有機エレクトロルミネッセンス素子部6の発光領域外へ引き出され、引き出された陽極5の一部と陰極3の外周端部近傍とを絶縁する絶縁層8が配置される。保護膜7上に接着層を介して放熱板が固定されるとともに、保護膜が、有機エレクトロルミネッセンス素子部を被覆する平坦化層と、接着層を硬化する際の有機エレクトロルミネッセンス素子部への悪影響を遮断するシールド層とをこの順に有する。

また、特許文献1においては、基板上に形成した陽極そのものがバリア層としての機能を兼ね、この陽極バリア層により基板側から侵入した水が遮断されるとの記載があるが、単に陽極材料にバリア性や光透過性の良い材料を選択しただけであり、バリア性を高める目的で素子構造に工夫を施すことに関する記載は見当たらない。
さらに、特許文献2では、基板上に陰極、有機化合物薄膜、陽極をこの順に重ねる構造が記載されているが、基板の上面から光を取り出すことを主な目的としており、有機化合物薄膜の劣化については全く考慮されていない。当然、バリア性を高める目的で陰極とその上の有機化合物薄膜との位置関係を最適化することについての記載はない。例えば陰極、有機化合物薄膜及び陽極を単純に積層した構造の場合、基板を透過してくる水分や酸素等が陰極の周囲から容易に回り込んで有機化合物薄膜に到達するので、陰極で水分や酸素等を遮断する効果はほとんど得られず、したがって有機化合物薄膜が容易に劣化すると考えられる。

- プラスチック材料からなる基板上に有機エレクトロルミネッセンス素子部が形成されている有機エレクトロルミネッセンス素子であって、
前記有機エレクトロルミネッセンス素子部が前記基板側から陰極、少なくとも発光層を含む有機化合物薄膜、及び陽極をこの順に積層して形成されるとともに、平面から見て前記陰極の内側に前記有機化合物薄膜が位置するように前記陰極と前記有機化合物薄膜とが配置されることを特徴とする有機エレクトロルミネッセンス素子。 - 前記陰極の面積が100mm2以上であることを特徴とする請求項1記載の有機エレクトロルミネッセンス素子。
- 前記陽極の一部が前記有機エレクトロルミネッセンス素子部の発光領域外へ引き出され、引き出された陽極の一部と前記陰極の外周端部近傍とを絶縁する絶縁層が配置されることを特徴とする請求項1記載の有機エレクトロルミネッセンス素子。
- 前記有機エレクトロルミネッセンス素子部が保護膜によって覆われていることを特徴とする請求項1記載の有機エレクトロルミネッセンス素子。

- 前記保護膜が、前記有機エレクトロルミネッセンス素子部を被覆する平坦化層と、前記接着層を硬化する際の前記有機エレクトロルミネッセンス素子部への悪影響を遮断するシールド層とをこの順に有することを特徴とする請求項5記載の有機エレクトロルミネッセンス素子。
- 前記接着層が熱硬化接着層であり、前記シールド層は前記熱硬化接着層の硬化時に発生するガスを遮断することを特徴とする請求項6記載の有機エレクトロルミネッセンス素子。
- 前記平坦化層に含まれる有機絶縁材料が、キシリレン系高分子化合物、ポリイミド系高分子化合物、アクリル系高分子化合物、エポキシ系高分子化合物、ポリ尿素系高分子化合物から選ばれる少なくとも1種であることを特徴とする請求項6記載の有機エレクトロルミネッセンス素子。
- 前記接着層がフィラーを含有することを特徴とする請求項5記載の有機エレクトロルミネッセンス素子。
- 平面から見て前記放熱板より内側に前記有機エレクトロルミネッセンス素子部が位置するとともに、前記放熱板の外周端部と前記有機エレクトロルミネッセンス素子部の外周端部との基板面に平行な方向での距離、又は接着層の外周端部と前記有機エレクトロルミネッセンス素子部の外周端部との基板面に平行な方向での距離のいずれか短い方が1mm以上であることを特徴とする請求項5記載の有機エレクトロルミネッセンス素子。
- 前記有機エレクトロルミネッセンス素子部の外周端部と前記放熱板の外周端部との間に配置され、前記基板と前記放熱板との間隔を規制するスペーサ層を有することを特徴とする請求項5記載の有機エレクトロルミネッセンス素子。
- 請求項1〜請求項11のいずれか1項記載の有機エレクトロルミネッセンス素子を有することを特徴とする照明装置。
