Claims (1)
- 【特許請求の範囲】 1.液晶物質を含むディスプレーセルとレターデーション層とを含む液晶ディス プレーにおいて、該レターデーション層が、高分子量物質の層及び基板を含み、 ここで、該高分子量物質が、そのTgより上でネマチック相を有しかつ作動温度 における少なくとも100Pa.sの動粘度を有しており、かつ該高分子量物質 のTcとディスプレーセルの低分子量物質のTcとの差が、−30℃〜+30℃ の範囲、好ましくは−20℃〜+20℃の範囲、そしてより好ましくは−10℃ 〜+10℃の範囲であり、かつ高分子量液晶物質のTgが、50℃より低いとこ ろの液晶ディスプレー。 2.レターデーション層の高分子量物質が、僅かに架橋されているところの請求 項1記載の液晶ディスプレー。 3.高分子量液晶物質のTgが、−50℃〜+35℃であるところの請求項1又 は2記載の液晶ディスプレー。 4.高分子量物質の層が、キラルネマチックカラミチック又はディスコチック構 造を有するところの請求項1〜3のいずれか一つに記載の液晶ディスプレー。 5.高分子量物質が、 a)OH含有化合物、及び b)メソゲン基含有モノエポキシド を含むモノマー混合物を重合することにより得られ得るポリエーテルであるとこ ろの請求項1〜4のいずれか一つに 記載の液晶ディスプレー。 6.モノマー混合物が、オキシラニルメタンを含むところの請求項5記載の液晶 ディスプレー。 7.メソゲン基含有モノエポキシドが、スペーサーを有するところの請求項5記 載の液晶ディスプレー。 8.モノマー混合物中のエポキシ基/ヒドロシキル基の比が、5:1〜1:1の 範囲であるところの請求項5〜7のいずれか一つに記載の液晶ディスプレー。 9.OH含有化合物が、下記式に従うモノヒドロキシ含有化合物であるところの 請求項5〜8のいずれか一つに記載の液晶ディスプレー HO‐(Y)m‐Z [ここで、Zは、H(m≠0のとき)、‐O‐C(O)‐CH=CH2、‐O‐C (O)‐C(CH3)=CH2、4〜10個の炭素原子を持つ、環状化合物、芳香 族化合物、又は複素環式化合物を示し、上記化合物はメソゲン基、‐CH(CH2 ‐O‐C(O)‐CH=CH2)2、‐C(CH2‐OC(O)‐CH=CH2)3 、‐C(CH2‐O‐C(O)‐CH=CH2)2‐CH3、‐CH(CH2‐O‐ C(O)‐C(CH3)=CH2)2、‐C(CH2‐OC(O)‐C(CH3)= CH2)3、又は‐C(CH2‐O‐C(O)‐C(CH3)=CH2)2‐CH3を 含んでよく、 Yは、‐CH2‐、‐C(CH3)2‐、‐CH(CH3)‐、‐CH2‐O‐ψ1‐ (CH2)m‐、又は‐HC[‐(CH2)m ‐O‐ψ1‐(Q)n‐ψ2‐R1]‐を示し、ここで、夫々のY基は、同一であ っても異なっていてもよく、 mは夫々独立して、0〜12の整数を示し(但し、OH基に対してα又はβ位に 酸素原子を持つ化合物は除かれる)、 Qは、‐C(O)‐O‐、‐C=C‐、‐C=N‐、‐N=C‐、O‐C(O) ‐、‐C≡C‐、‐N=N‐、又は‐N(→O)=N‐を示し、 R1は、‐O‐R2、‐NO2、‐CN、‐HC=C(CN)2、‐C(CN)=C (CN)2、又は‐R2を示し、 R2は、1〜15個の炭素原子を持つアルキル基、‐(CH2)k‐O‐C(O) ‐CH=CH2、‐(CH2)k‐O‐C(O)‐C(CH3)=CH2、又は‐( CH2)x‐OHを示し、 xは、0〜12の整数を示し、 kは、0〜12の整数を示し(但し、R1=‐O‐R2のとき、kは、0又は1で はない)、 ψ1は、4〜10個の炭素原子を持つ、環状化合物、芳香族化合物、又は複素環 式化合物を示し、上記化合物はメソゲン基により置換されていてもよく、 ψ2は、4〜10個の炭素原子を持つ、環状化合物、芳香族化合物、又は複素環 式化合物を示し、上記化合物はメソゲン基により置換されていてもよく、かつ nは、0又は1を示す。]。 10.OH含有化合物が、下記式のいずれか一つに従う化合物であるところの請 求項5〜9のいずれか一つに記載の 液晶ディスプレー (ここで、R3は、1〜12個の炭素原子を持つアルキル基を示し、かつZ、Y、 ψ1、ψ2、m及びnは、請求項9の式におけるものと同一の意味を有する。)。 11.メソゲン基含有モノエポキシド基が、下記式の一つを満たすところの請求 項5〜10のいずれか一つに記載の液晶ディスプレー [ここで、Q1は、‐C(O)‐O‐、‐C=C‐、‐O‐C(O)‐、‐N=C ‐、‐C=N‐、‐C≡C‐、‐N=N‐、又は‐N(→O)=N‐を示し、 Wは、C、O、又はSを示し、 Aは、 を示し、 Q2は、‐O‐C(O)‐、‐O‐、又は‐O‐C(O)‐C=C‐を示し、 R4は、‐O‐R8、‐COO‐R8、‐OCO‐R8、‐N O2、‐CN、‐HC=C(CN)2、‐C(CN)=C(CN)2、又は‐R8を 示し、 R5は、1〜5個の炭素原子を持つアルキル基を示し、 R6は、1〜5個の炭素原子を持つアルキル基を示し、 R7は、H又はCH3を示し、 pは、1〜7であり、 mは、0〜12であり(但し、エポキシ基の酸素に対してα又はβ位に酸素原子 を持つ化合物は除かれる)、 nは、0又は1であり、 qは、0〜3であり(但し、m=0のとき、q≠0である)、 rは、0又は1であり、 R8は、1〜15個の炭素原子を持つアルキル基を示し、 R9は、H又は1〜15個の炭素原子を持つアルキル基を示し、かつ R10は、1〜20個の炭素原子を持つアルキル基又はアルコキシ基を示す。]。 12. a)OH含有化合物、 b)メソゲン基含有モノエポキシド、及び c)アクリル基含有エポキシド又はOH含有化合物 を含むモノマー混合物を重合することにより得られ得る僅かに架橋可能な又は架 橋した液晶ポリエーテル。
