Abstract

1,255,998. Charging xerographic plates. RANK XEROX Ltd. March 18, 1969 [March 18, 1968], No. 14153/69. Heading G2H. The surface 16 of a xerographic plate 11 is charged by means of a D.C. source 20 connected between an electrode 18 and a conductive backing layer 14 of the plate, an A.C. source 24 being connected between the layer 14 and a conducting shield 22. It is stated that when the peak-to-peak A. C. voltage is in the order of or greater than the D.C. voltage, a substantial increase in the uniformity of the charge distribution is obtained. Various shapes and constructions of conducting shield are described (90), Fig. 3 (not shown). The device may be used in the intial-charging, transfer and cleaning stations (10, 64, 34, respectively), Fig. 1 (not shown). The device may include more than one electrode 18. [GB1255998A]
