An apparatus for uniformly charging an insulating surface 1, such as a xerographic surface, has at least one corona discharge point 3 positioned above a support 2 for the surface, means to apply a voltage between the discharge point 3 and the support 2, and means to apply cause relative movement between the point 3 and the support 2.
