Abstract

1,149,074. Applying electrostatic charges. RANK XEROX Ltd. May 16, 1966 [May 17, 1965], No.21618/66. Heading G2H. An electrostatic charge is applied to a surface, e.g. a xerographic plate by forming on the surface a first layer of an electrically insulating liquid (having a bulk resistivity of 10<SP>9</SP> Ohm-cm) and then a second layer of electrolytic liquid and positioning an electrode in contact with the second layer. The electrolytic liquid may be water, water and isopropanol, and water and alcohol solution. The insulating liquid may be kerosene, cyclohexane, gasoline, benzene, toluene carbontetrachloride, dimethyl silicone liquid, or trichlorotrifluorethane. A liquid developer for developing an image formed from a so charged xerographic plate comprises Colitho Reflex Blue Ink suspended in fluorocarbon.
