Abstract

1281149 Electrophotography RANK XEROX Ltd 19 April 1971 [7 March 1970] 23182/71 Heading G2H The surfaces of a transparent insulative web 4 are oppositely charged by means of corona devices 7 and 8, the web is brought into contact with an earthed photo-conductive layer 3, and the photo-conductive layer is imagewise light exposed line-by-line while the surface of the web not in contact with the photo-conductive layer is subjected to a corona device 9 of a potential opposite in sign to that of the charge already on the said surface so as to form a charge image on said surface. The charge image may be developed on the web before or after stripping from the photoconductive layer. The photo-conductive layer may be subjected to uniform light exposure before stripping. The charge image may alternatively be developed after transfer to another surface. The photo-conductive layer may be exposed through a conductive web (as shown) or through a transparent conductive backing for the photo -conductive layer. The dark resistivity of the photo-conductive layer may be 10<SP>5</SP> ohm. cm for a contact time of 0.01 seconds. The web may be 10-100 microns thick.
