Abstract
1327942 Classifying toner particles XEROX CORP 14 Oct 1970 [20 Oct 1969] 48788/70 Heading B2J Large particles are removed from small particles by selective transfer from a first surface to a second conductive surface by a process involving applying a variable charge to the particles on. the first surface, placing the second surface of variable distance from the first surface and applying a variable bias potential of opposite polarity to the second surface. Successive transfer to one or more further conductive surfaces may be made. As shown, after particles have been deposited on a charged xerographic drum 20, the charge removed by exposure to light and a charge applied to the deposited particles, small particles are retained on drum 20, medium particles are transferred to an electrically biased aluminium drum 30, and large particles are transferred first to drum 30 and then to an electricaly biased aluminium drum 40. Drums 20 and 30 have charging corotrons 24 and 32 resp. Drums 20, 30 and 40 have particle removal means, 26, 33 and 42/44 resp.
