Abstract
Compounds of the general formula <FORM:0972964/C1/1> (wherein R1 represents an alkyl, alkenyl, hydroxy alkyl or aralkyl group, R2 represents an alkyl, alkoxy or trifluoromethyl group or a halogen atom, R3 represents a trifluoromethyl, alkyl, alkoxy, alkylthio, nitro, amino, alkylsulphinyl, alkylsulphonyl or acylamino group or a halogen atom and R4, which can only be present when R3 is other than a trifluoromethyl group, represents any of the values of R3 except the latter value and wherein the broken lines denote that the substituents attached thereby are optional), and acid addition salts of those compounds which are basic, are prepared by reacting a compound of the general formula <FORM:0972964/C1/2> (wherein R30 and R40 have any of the values accorded to R3 and R4 respectively except those of amino and acylamino), or an alkali metal derivative thereof, with an alkylating, alkenylating, hydroxyalkylating or aralkylating agent and, if desired in the case where R30 and R40 were absent in the starting material, subjecting the product to one or more of the steps nitration, reduction of the nitro group and acylation of the amino group where a nitro, amino or acylamino group is required in the product or, if desired in the case where one or both of R30 and R40 in the starting material were nitro groups, subjecting the product to one or both of the steps of reduction of the nitro group(s) and acylation of the resulting amino group(s) where one or two amino or acylamino groups are required in the product, and/or converting the product (if a base) into a salt by treatment with an acid. 7-Chloro -5- (21-fluorophenyl)-2, 3-dihydro-1H-1, 4-benzodiazepinone-(2) is prepared by condensing 2-amino -5- chloro -21- fluorobenzophenone with bromoacetyl bromide and treating the resulting 2-bromoacetamido -5- chloro -21-fluorobenzophenone with methanolic ammonia.
