Abstract

1298020 Substituted 2,6 - dinitroanilines UNITED STATES BORAX & CHEMICAL CORP 16 Nov 1970 [19 Nov 1969] 54507/70 Heading C2C The invention comprises compounds of formula wherein X is halogen; and R 1 , R 2 are each alkyl, alkenyl or alkynyl, their halo, hydroxy or C 1-6 alkoxy derivatives, or their cyclic analogues, or R 1 may be H, or NR 1 R 2 is a heterocyclic ring. These compounds are prepared by reacting a 2,4-dihalo-3,5-dinitrobenzotrifluoride with R 1 R 2 NH. The compounds of the above formula, as well as the 2,6-dinitro-4-trifluoromethylphenylene-1,3-diamines (II) prepared from them by treatment with NH 3 or a primary or secondary amine, are stated to have herbicidal properties. In Example X, unsubstituted II is isolated in the latter reaction, using NH 3 .
