The invention comprises compounds of the formula where R 1 is an alkyl or alkoxy group, R 2 is a secondary alkyl group, a primary or secondary alkyl group substituted by hydroxy, alkoxy. carbonyl, N-alkylcarbamoyl, alkoxy or carboxy, an alkenyl group or a cyclopropyl group and X is a hydrogen atom or a nitro or alkyl group. The compounds are prepared by reacting together compounds of the formulµ where hal is a halogen atom. The compounds may be used in herbicidal compositions.
