Procedure for the preparation of 1,4-benzodiazepine compounds of the general formula: ** (See formula) ** and the 4-N-oxides and pharmaceutically acceptable salts thereof, wherein in formula I, X is halogen, a trifluomethyl group or a nitro group, Y is hydrogen, halogen, or a trifluomethyl group, nitro, hydroxy, lower alkyl or lower alkoxy, R is a polyfluo-lower alkyl group and R1 is hydrogen or a lower alkyl group characterized by comprising introducing into a starting compound which corresponds except as regards the substituent on the position 2 half of diazepine, to the required compound of general formula X, the required 2-thione grouping and isolating the product thus obtained in the form of a compound of formula I or a corresponding 4-N-oxide and/or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt.
