Abstract
970,237. Liquid fuel burners. INSTITUT DE RECHERCHES DE LA SIDERURGIE FRANCAISE. June 27, 1963 [July 6, 1962], No. 25515/63. Heading F4T. A burner with a flame stabilized by a shock wave comprises a straight duct 1 for the supply of oxygen and a centrally-located fuel injector body 2 forming with the duct 1 an annular convergent-divergent space and injecting fuel into the divergent part 6 of the space. The sonic velocity of the oxygen in the annular space causes in the divergent part 6 a shock wave 16, which forms an impenetrable barrier for the flame front. The body 2 is formed by two cones 3, 4 contiguous at their bases and has fuel orifices 15 in the cone 4 communicating with the divergent part 6 of the annular space. The body 2 is mounted on the end of a pressurized fuel tube 12 slidable in a plug 11 which is screwed into a sleeve 8 having a central bore 9 supplied with oxygen by a tube 10. The duct 1 is screwed to the sleeve 8 to connect with the internal bore 9. The end of the duct 1 may be cylindrical and the outer cone 4 may be truncated. The burner may be used in a tuyere of a blast furnace or an arc furnace where the tube 1 is formed by a furnace electrode. Specifications 873,423 and 951,466 are referred to.
