Abstract

902,595. Gas burners. BABCOCK & WILCOX CO. May 19, 1961 [May 20, 1960], No. 18283/61. Class 75 (1). A plurality of gas spuds 53 have their tips 63B arranged in a circle and aligned with longitudinal slots 15 in the inner surface of a throat member 12 leading to a combustion chamber. The gas spuds are detachably secured to a gas manifold 50 outside an outer wall 16 and extend therefrom through a windbox 17 and an air register 19 having pivoted doors 27 linked to an automatically or manuallyactuated operating means. Each spud comprises a tip 53B threaded on to a tubular portion 53A and formed with a pair of inclined faces 60, 61 joined by a short central face 62 having inclined end faces 63, 64. Gas-discharge orifices are formed in all the faces of the tip 53B except the inclined face 61 and further discharge orifices are formed in the tubular portion 53A at the side adjacent the apertured inclined face 60. The spuds are oriented so that the orifices in the inclined face 60 direct the gas radially inward. A liquid fuel burner 40 extends through the axis of the burner assembly and comprises an atomizer head 44, an impeller 45 and a supply connection 43. Specification 735,409 is referred to.
