979,110. Burners. CENTRE NATIONAL DE RECHERCHES METALLURGIQUES. Oct. 18, 1962 [Oct. 19, 1961], No. 39512/62. Heading F4T. A burner which is mounted in a tuyere of a shaft furnace comprises a central oil feed tube 1 terminating in a screw-threadedly attached convergent spray nozzle 2 having a cylindrical constricted portion 5 and an outer tube 6 of heat resisting steel forming an annular passage around the tube 1, for gas or air. The rate of flow of the latter varies with the rate of injection of fuel oil through the nozzle 2 to control heating of the oil by hot air flowing through the tuyere. The maximum rate of gas or air flow between the tubes 1, 6 occurs when no fuel oil is being injected.
