Abstract
923,869. Spraying fusible materials. METCO Inc. March 7, 1961 [July 8, 1960], No. 8209/61. Class 69 (3). A flame spray-gun of the wire-fed type is adapted for spraying the interiors of tubes &c. and for this purpose has its nozzle assembly mounted at the end of an extension 2, and the latter includes a coaxial wire guide tube 10 heat insulated so that the heat conductivity thereof is not more than 360 BTU/hr./‹F./sq. ft., and with provision for heating the inner surface of the tube at its outlet portion. The tube 10 is rigidly-attached to the nozzle assembly and is slidably connected at its opposite end to the gun body 1 to provide for axial expansion and contraction. The guide tube may be of stainless steel surrounded by an asbestos sleeve with the space between tube and sleeve packed with a refractory cement. Fuel gas is supplied to a passage 6 in the gun, and flows via channel 18 to a tube 12 forming part of the extension. The tube 12 supplies the gas to a passage 29 in a member 26 feeding an annular groove 30 from which a number of radial passages 33 extend. Combustion supporting gas is supplied through jet passages 34 linking with the radial passages, and the gases are mixed in a passage 35 before flowing to burner jets 24 in a nozzle 23 embraced by an air cap 22. The latter may have an inclined outlet for the emitted spray. Combustion supporting gas is fed to a passage 5 in the gun body and flows through a passage 17 to a tube 11 feeding a passage 27, an annular groove 28, radial passages 33 and the jet passages 34. Blast gas, such as air, is supplied to a passage 7 and flows through one or more passages 20 to the extension and nozzle assembly interior and then through openings 46 to the air cap. The wire is guided through the tube 10, passage 31 and the nozzle 23. A bleeder hole 42 connects the passage 31 with the interior of the air cap body 21 and provides a blow-back of heat from the nozzle which heats the wire guide tube. Specification 911,998 is referred to.
