Abstract

At least one wall of the furnace chamber is fitted with >=1 burner, which can be modified to achieve heating either by radiation, or by a long hot flame shotting across the furnaces. The furnace is fitted with burner control appts. monitoring the difference in temp. between the wall on which the burner is located and the wall opposite the burner. The temp. difference is employed for automatic and continuous adjustment of the type or length of the flame so a constant, uniform temp. is obtd. in the furnace chamber. Pref. burner includes an axial pipe for the injection of an inert gas or air. This pipe is located inside a tube delivering liq.-, gaseous-, or powdered fuel. On the outside of the fuel delivery tube is a ring chamber which feeds air through nozzles creating turbulence. The advantages are reduced fuel consumption and a uniform ingot temp.
