Abstract

959,265. Piles. A. M. ROBERTSON. April 16, 1963 [Feb. 28, 1963], No. 8117/63. Heading E1H. A pile is formed by first driving into the ground, sea, or other bed a the lower closed end of a steel tube d (Fig. 1), partly filling the tube with a concrete mix e having a low water cement ratio (Fig. 3), inserting into the upper end of the tube the lower end of a reinforced or prestressed concrete column g which forms an annular clearance h with the tube (Fig. 4), filling the clearance with cement grout and then driving the composite pile so formed (Fig. 5). The column g has an axial duct i through which the cement grout may be introduced to the clearance h. The concrete mix e may be introduced and consolidated in stages, consolidation being effected by means of a hammer or vibrator, or the mix may be consolidated by driving the column g.
