910,089. Piles. TOMLIN, A. G. June 27, 1961 [July 7, 1960], No. 23780/60. Class 68 (2) A pile comprises a shoe 1 having sockets 2 to receive the bottom ends 3 of reinforcing rods 4 before the sinking of the pile, an outer shell formed of hollow pre-cast concrete sections 6 assembled together longitudinally, and a core of concrete cast inside the hollow shell after the shoe and hollow sections have been sunk to the required depth. Preferably the shoe 1 is solid and the pile is driven by a hammer sliding in the hollow shaft formed by the sections 6, but an annular cutting shoe may be substituted for the solid one, and under certain conditions it may be desirable to partially sink the pile by jetting.
