Abstract
956,386. Laying caisson foundations. STRABAG BAN A.G. Feb. 27, 1961 [March 15, 1960], No. 7127/61. Heading E1H. A subaqueous foundation is constructed by bringing a caisson 14 (e.g. on a barge 15) under a lift island 10, suspending the caisson therefrom by means 16, and (after removing the barge 15) lowering the island to set the caisson on the water bed 18 (Fig. 2). The sinking shaft 17 is built up on the caisson before lowering. During lowering the concreting up of the shaft 17 may be continued until it finally projects through an opening 20 in the lift island. The chain lines in Fig. 2 show the caisson penetrating the ground strata 19. Fig. 3 shows the lifting island 10 and its legs 11 supported on pontoons 21 for floating away. Instead of a central opening 20 that has to be raised clear as shown in Fig. 3, the lift island 22 (Fig. 5) may be U-shaped with an opening 23 to one side.
