Abstract

1410126 Forming concrete piles FUNDEX PVBA 1 Feb 1973 [1 Feb 1972] 5018/73 Heading E1H A pile is formed by driving into the ground an assembly comprising a tube 2 and a stem 3 having a pointed tip 4, the stem being guided within the tube, whereby after the assembly has been driven to the required depth, the tube is held and the stem driven in further by the punch 8, 8' of a pile driver 7. The space within the tube is filled with concrete grout either before, during, or after the driving operations. During the second driving operation the punch 8 forces grout out of the tube 2 along with the stem 3, additional grout being injected through a pipe 14, 12 and nozzle 11 into the gap formed behind the tip 4. After removal of the punch 8, 8' the tube is re-filled with grout. In the final position dogs 6 fixed to the lower end of the tube abut dogs 5 fixed to the upper end of the stem 3. If the pile is to be loaded compressively the dogs 5 are arranged to pass through gaps between the dogs 6, whereafter the stem is rotated to bring the dogs into longitudinal alignment. A reinforcing structure may be provided. The tube 2 is preferably hexagonal and the stem 3 of I-section.
