Abstract

1308209 Ground anchors; piles VEREINIGTE OSTERREICHISCHE EISEN-UND STAHLWERKE AG 29 July 1970 [18 Aug 1969] 36650/70 Headings E1B and E1H A hammer-driven hollow square section sheet steel pile 1 is driven into the ground, a charge exploded in the tip to expand portions 2 and form a cavity therearound and then a hardenable material is poured in to fill the cavity and embed the portions 2. Reinforcements may be included in the cavity. A stemming liquid is poured into the pile before the charge is detonated. The pile is made from sheet steel folded into a square section tube with a pyramidal point and welded together, the sides of the pyramid being weakly joined. Some of the soil may be removed at ground level and an asbestos cement tube 12 placed around the pile and filled with concrete to resist lateral loads.
