Abstract

A steel anchorage rod (2, 6) between sheet pile walls or other retaining walls and embedded concrete anchor blocks (4), is simply removed after useful life, by forming a rupture zone in the tie rod adjacent to the anchor block, so that a pull applied to the rod causes rupture at this point and rod extraction. Applicable to the type of tie (2) sheat ed in a plastic tube (3) between the wall and the anchor block (4), the process uses the application of heat to diminuish the steel strength characteristics. A tie coupling sleeve (7) containing thermite powder (8) can be used, ignited via cable (10) and fuse (9).
