Abstract

1340355 Boring earth and rock piling INTERNATIONAAL TECHNISCHE HANDELSONDERNEMING EN ADVIES BUREAU NV 19 April 1971 [13 March 1970] 24080/71 Headings E1F and E1H In a method of making a borehole in the ground and lining the wall of the bore with a prefabricated sleeve, an annulus 6 (whose shape is defined in the specification) is driven into the ground by a tube 1 having a striking head 3 at the end opposite the annulus, and cuts a hole for a sleeve 2 surrounding the tube, a resilient member 5 being interposed between the sleeve and a part 3 of the tube to which the driving force is applied and the tube 1 is subsequently withdrawn leaving the borehole lined with the sleeve 2. The sleeve may be fixed to the flange. The sleeve may be of weak construction and may be made of iron, non-ferrous metal, plastics or ceramic material, and may be of round, oval, square, rectangular or star-shaped cross section. In a modification, Fig. 4, a stepped hole may be made using telescopic tubes and sleeves. After the tube 1 has been withdrawn leaving the sleeve and annulus 6 in position, a narrower tube (not shown) surrounded by a sleeve 8, and acting on a further annulus 11 is driven down through the annulus 6 by applying a force to the tube through a lengthening piece (not shown) coupled to the tube. The tube is withdrawn, and the process repeated as required, to position further sleeves such as 12. The process may be used for making vertical holes for the formation of in situ piles, or horizontal holes through dykes for cable laying.
