Abstract

1,103,522. Pile walls. G. WEY, 21, Jan., 1966, No. 2942/66. Heading E1H. A continuous wall of cast-in-situ piles is constructed by drilling a first row of holes 18 such that the distance between adjacent hole centres is less than twice the diameter of the holes removable filling members 19 are lowered into the holes 18 and a second row of holes 20 is bored between the holes 18 of the first row so that in the final arrangement of bore holes the distance between the centres of two adjacent holes is less than the diameter of each hole. The filling members 19 are tubular and have a profile which is shaped according to the diameter of the overlapping holes 20 which are to be drilled and they can be provided with an anchorage (21), Fig. 6 (not shown). The holes 20 and the filling members 19 are filled with coarse aggregates 22 after which the filling members are removed. The voids in the aggregate are filled with grout injected through pipes 23. Other forms of filling member consist of flexible tubes partially enclosed by rigid curved plates and for deep bores units of filling members can be placed one above the other and releasably connected by junctions. In a further method a previously bored hole is filled with stones the voids of which are filled with a material which can readily be cut when boring the subsequent overlapping hole.
