Abstract

The ground anchors are used to support the side facing of an excavation in dry or drained ground. The anchors (53) are cylindrical metal tubes with wall perforations, and an end plate (61) to spread the load carried by the anchors to the excavation wall. Cement grout is pumped into the tubes under pressure, passes through the perforatons and provides a key between the ground and anchor. The excavation is cut in stages; after each layer has been dug, anchors are installed such that their length extends beyond the slip surface for the excavation wall.
