Abstract

975,030. Concrete piles. D. P. DAIN. Sept. 6, 1962, No. 34113/62. Heading E1H. A process of forming an in situ reinforced concrete pile, comprises driving a concrete peg c, with an upstanding cage of steel reinforcement e for the pile anchored to it, into firm soil by means of a steel tube casing a, in the lower end of which concrete CN is first introduced to form a seal against water and soil, producing a bulb footing bf at the foot of the pile from a quantity of concrete poured down a tremie tube b inserted inside the reinforcement from the top of the casing, the casing being withdrawn a little and then used to hammer the concrete to form the bulb footing, and completing the pile shaft by pouring further successive quantities of concrete into the steel casing through the tremie tube, each successive quantity of concrete being compacted, and the casing together with the tremie tube being gradually withdrawn as the pile formation proceeds. The concrete may be compacted by a vibrator or the tremie tube. Hydraulic or pneumatic jacks may be used to drive or withdraw the tremie tube.
