Abstract

959,239. Piles. JOHN GILL CONTRACTORS Ltd. April 19, 1963 [April 24, 1962], No. 15524/62. Heading E1H. In a reinforced concrete pile formed in situ by means of precast concrete units, each unit J (Figs. 4 & 5) is of cylindrical form provided with at least two grooves M diametrically opposed the whole length of the exterior of the unit and so disposed in relation to holes L for the main reinforcing steel bars as to ensure that the holes are kept in alignment between the units when forming a pile, means (steel wire rope E, Figs. 2 & 3) being provided to co-operate with the grooves to assemble a column of units in alignment. The pile is formed by forming a bore in the ground C, lining the bore with a tube, placing the units J within the bore by means of a loop of the steel wire rope E running through the grooves (Fig. 2), withdrawing the rope (Fig. 3), filling said tube and concrete units with cement grout (via a pipe N in the bore K in the units), and withdrawing the tube.
