848,900. Retaining walls. CHIAVES, C. June 10, 1959 [June 10, 1958], No. 19868/59. Class 68(2). An earth retaining wall 1 is stabilised by metal tie rods 4 which connect it to a base 2 laid on the foundation soil P. The wall 1, which rests on footings 3, and the base 2 are made of prefabricated blocks la, 2a formed with lightening holes. The blocks are of a cross-section which define channels 5 and 6 in which reinforced concrete girders are cast and in which the ends of the tierods 4 are embedded. The parts of the tie-rods in contact with the retained soil are covered with a waterproof layer 7 or are made of corrosion proof material. The blocks forming the wall have grooves adapted to accommodate metal reinforcements 8 which are embedded in mortar as the blocks are laid. Reinforcing wires 9 are used in the construction of the base.
