Abstract

950,862. Railway vehicle undercarriages. METALASTIK Ltd. Nov. 23, 1961 [Nov. 23, 1960], No. 40342/60. Heading B7L. A bolsterless railway vehicle comprises a body 10, Fig. 1, is supported at each side by a side bearer assembly from a main sole bar 11, Fig. 2, of a bogie, each side bearer assembly comprising a rubber-metal leaf-spring block 18 carried in a trough 21 and supporting the body mainly in compression but permitting horizontal movements of the body in all directions mainly in shear, and rubber-metal leaf springs 23, 24 supporting the trough 21, fore and aft, from brackets 25, 26 on the sole bar, the springs 23, 24 acting in combined shear and compression to support the block 18 and permit the required vertical movements of the body as well as some transverse horizontal movements thereof. A traction and braking link 14 is connected through rubber pivots 15, 16 to a bogie transom 12 and to the body 10 on the central vertical longitudinal plane of the vehicle. In another embodiment the springs 23, 24 are each replaced by a pair of springs in V-formation as viewed in plan. Alternatively, each spring 23, 24 may be replaced by a chevron spring. If desired the link 14 may be replaced by a linkage as described in Specification 839,336. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 870,814.
