Abstract

997,305. Railway vehicle undercarriages. METALASTIK Ltd. Nov. 7, 1962 [Nov. 17, 1961], No. 41321/61. Heading B7L. A pair of articulated railway vehicles are supported at their adjacent ends by a common bogie having a common vertical pivot for those ends, the pivot comprising a cylindrical housing 14, Figs. 1 and 3, on the bogie, e.g. in a bolster having flanges 10 and a web 11; a pair of part cylindrical rubber bush elements 15, 16, e.g. each having rubber part-annuli 18, 19 and a part-annular metal interleaf 20, each having associated therewith a corresponding part cylindrical inner metal part 17 all the elements 15, 16 and parts 17 being coaxial with the axis of the housing 14, the elements and metal parts respectively being arranged one on each side of the transverse plane of the bogie containing the axis of the housing with their adjacent ends spaced apart as indicated at 23; and means 28, 29, 30, 31 for radially compressing the elements 15, 16 between the parts 17 and the housing, the parts 17 being attached respectively to the adjacent ends of the vehicles. The compressing means comprise frusto-conical metal sleeves 31 and frusto-conical rubber bushes 28, 29, the sleeves having bores 30 through which is passed a bolt to draw the sleeves together. Each end of the bolster 10, 11, Fig. 2, is supported from the bogie frame by fore-and-aft rubber-metal-interleaf springs 12, and has a seat 41, 44 for a rubber-metal interleaf side bearer spring 37 connected by a bolt 49 to a foot-plate 48 having upwardly extending arms 47 supporting one railway carriage end. A saddle 51 bridging the foot-plate 48 is carried in a seat 53 in the bolster end, and supports a rubber-metal-interleaf side bearer spring 36 supporting the other adjacent railway carriage end. Instead of being one above the other at each end of the bolster, the pairs of springs 36, 37 may be side-by-side and in line with the transverse vertical plane containing the common pivot axis, with the inner two side bores supporting one carriage end and the outer two side bearers supporting the other adjacent carriage end.
