Abstract
991,619. Railway vehicle undercarriages. ATELIERS BELGES REUNIS S.A. Aug. 24, 1961 [Aug. 25, 1960], No. 30617/61. Heading B7L. A railway vehicle bogie having a bolster 4, Figs. 1, 2 and 5, supported at its ends 2, 3, by inflatable air mattresses 1 on side frames 6, 7, and connected to the side frames by two longitudinal rods 18, 19 (18 not shown) is characterized in that the bogie frame is formed by two axles 20, 21, Fig. 3, which act as cross-members and by the two side frames 6, 7 which bear against the axle stubs through swinging roller bearings (not shown), the frames 6, 7 also being interconnected by a central cross-piece 25 rigidly secured to the bogie side frame 6 and pivoted at 26 through a resilient bushing 27 to the side frame 7. As shown in Fig. 3, the crosspiece 25 is formed by tubes 29, 30 rigidly connected at 31, 32 to the side frame 6 and connected together at their ends 33, 34 and to the pivot 26 in the side frame 7. The bolster is connected at each end to an hydraulic damper 36 also connected to a lever 37 pivoted at one end on a horizontal spindle 39 on the respective side frame and connected at its other end to a spring 41 also connected to the side frame. The cross-piece 25 is connected to the bolster 4 through a rod 43, a bell-crank 46, 47 and a spring 51, to guide the bolster laterally of the bogie frame. The vehicle body 5, Fig. 5, is connected to the bolster through a central pivot 12 and resilient bush 14 and by slideways 10, 11. The articulation at the pivot 26 has a decreasing spring rate. The mattresses 1 are connected by ducts 9 with compressed air reservoirs 8 in the bolster and a valve system (not shown) controls the air pressure in the mattresses to maintain the body 5 level. The bogie is provided with disc brakes 52, Fig. 2, operable from a rocker 54 and cylinder 53. The axle boxes 56 are connected to the side frames 6, 7 through rubber dampers 55.
