Abstract

1,043,217. Railway vehicle undercarriages; axle box guides. ORENSTEIN-KOPPEL & LUBECKER MASCHINENBAU A.G., and RHEINISCHE BRAUNKOHLENWERKE A.G. May 22, 1964 [May 22, 1963], No. 21266/64. Heading B7L. A railway vehicle bogie 12, Figs. 1, 2 and 3, comprises side frames 20, 21 supported from supports 19 of axle boxes 18 by hollow cone springs 17 of rubber, the side frames being connected together by a central transverse member formed by two individual channel-section beams 22, 23, the beam 22 being rigidly secured or integral with the side-frame 20 end the beam 23 being rigidly secured or integral with the sideframe 21 and housed with the beam 22, the free ends 221, 231 of the beams 22, 23 being connected to the fixed ends of the beams 23 and 22 respectively by swivel socket joints 25 and 24, respectively. As shown in Fig. 3, the swivel joints each comprise a hemi-spherical member engaging in a complementary socket with the interpositioning of an anti-friction lining 26. Centrally of its length the beam 23 has an extension 30 with an arcuate hole 301 connected by a bolt 31 to webs 32 on the beam 22. In another embodiment the swivel joint parts are secured together by bolts having interposed flexible discs, as described with reference to Fig. 4 (not shown). This construction of bogie allows wheels, e.g. 13, 15, to maintain contact with the rails 10, 11 at depression, e.g. 101 and 111 therein, by balancing the forces on both sides of the bogie. The vehicle body 33 is connected to the beam 22 by a socket 223.
