Abstract
972,121. Independent spring suspensions. ADAM OPEL A.G. May 9, 1963 [June 20, 1962], No. 18458/63. Heading B7D. In a motor vehicle with wheel carriers 13 ball-jointed to upper and lower transverse arms 23, 17, the transverse leaf suspension spring 95 is resiliently mounted on the body or frame at two transversely spaced points and is connected to the lower arms 17 by spring eyes 99 containing resilient bushings (Fig. 2, not shown) with lateral recesses 108 (Fig. 1) to permit relative movement between the spring and arms transversely of the vehicle. The suspension spring and lower arms are mounted through a pair of yokes 60 on cross-member 25 which is bolted to longitudinal vehicle members 28 with the interposition of rubber pads 29. The spring 95 is held in each yoke 60 by an inverted channel-section rubber member 111 and each lower arm is mounted on a pair of rubber/metal bushings 75 which are held on spindles 84 of yoke 60 by bolts 81 and prevented from rotating by serrated washers 86, 87. The spring comprises three leaves 96, 97, 98 separated by rubber blocks 116, 117 at the centre, 113, 114 at the yokes 60 and by U-section rubber/metal inserts 110 at the' ends. The leaves are held together in the middle by strap 115. Specification 971,442 is referred to.
