Abstract

737,726. Spring suspensions ; preventing lateral canting. A.E.C., Ltd., and BRITISH TRANSPORT COMMISSION. July 9, 1953, No. 19130/53. Class 108 (2). In a vehicle spring suspension, fore-and-aft extending beams 15 each carrying a wheel mounting are pivotally connected at 19, preferably resiliently one on each side of the vehicle frame or body, swinging movement of each beam being resisted by a vertically acting spring 24 between the outer end of the beam and the frame or body and differential swinging of the beams being limited by means, other than the wheel axle, connecting the beams together near the springs, e.g. by a torsionallyresilient cross-member 29. As shown, a rigid rear axle 11 is supported at each end on a carrier 14 resiliently secured at each end 16 to a beam 15, the axle being restrained against movement laterally of the frame by a link connected between the axle and the frame transversely thereof. The coil springs may be replaced by transversely-disposed leaf springs, by a fluid suspension system or by resilient blocks.
