Abstract

839,336. Bogie mountings. METALASTIK Ltd. July 7, 1958 [Aug. 13, 1957], No. 25596/57. Class 103(6) In a suspension system for resiliently supporting a railway vehicle on a bogie 7, Fig. 1, the weight of the body 5 is carried by side bearers 30 comprising a plurality of rubber discs 33, Fig. 3, bonded to metal interleaves 34 which are secured to the upper surface of sole bars 31 and by members 32 to the body underframe 6. so that vertical loads are carried by the bearers in compression and horizontal movements by the bearers acting in shear. Traction and braking forces are applied to the body 5 by a column 8 which projects from the underframe and which is secured to a plate 10, Fig. 2. The central portion 11 of the plate receives rubber bushes comprising inner and outer cylindrical sleeves 12, 13 with a rubber bush 14 therebetween and a pin 15 passes through a cuff 16 received within the inner sleeve 12, Column 8 and the assembly secured thereto lies within transoms 17 and a bracket 18 is secured to each transom to support a similar assembly comprising sleeves 21, 22 bush 23, cuff 20 and pins 19. Pins 15, 19 lie on the central longitudinal axis of the vehicle and a link 24 is secured between pin 15 and the next adjacent pin 19. Relative sideways movement between the bogie and body deflects the column 8 from the central longitudinal axis of the vehicle and carries the adjacent ends of links 24, which movement is restricted by flanges 26 of an inverted channel strut 25 extending over the links and between transoms 7. Small deflectors of the column 8 are resisted by the torsional resistance of the bushes and greater deflections by the compressive resistance. The bracket 18 may be supported from the body 5 and the plate from the bogie 7 in an alternative arrangement
